We got something we both can enjoy. We stopped at IKEA in Atlanta last month on the way home from Alabama. We bought new curtains, a new bedspread, duvet cover, and other decor and kitchen items. So we aren't sure if we should spend any money for Christmas this month on ourselves since we are trying to save and have lots of others to buy for. And we spent more than we planned at IKEA. But we may get each other something little anyway. We'll see. We haven't completely decided yet. So we may just treat the IKEA stuff as our presents.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

we haven't decided yet but we are probably getting one big thing for the both of us and then we might buy a few little things for each other...

right now it is either a new computer chair or a all-in-one printer... we saw a couple printers on sale and we are going to hopefully check them out this weekend...

Because this will be our first time celebrating as a married couple I decided to give my husband something special- I got him a really nice pocket watch.

Usually we give gifts like inviting the other for a special night out in a good restaurant, tango classes, a concert ticket or a short trip somewhere... things to do rather than to have.

short history:

2001 - met in Germany

April 2003 - fell in love

Aug 2004 - go to the US for internship

Feb 2005 - both return to Germany

Aug 2006 - getting married

DCF timeline:

09/01/2006 - filed the petition in Frankfurt

09/06/2006 - medical in Frankfurt

09/26/2006 - faxed checklist

10/05/2006 - received interview invite

11/01/2006 - INTERVIEW in Frankfurt - approved!

11/04/2006 - VISA IN HAND!!

12/21/2006 - POE San Francisco and ON TO SEA!

I bought my wife the Hallmark Very Merry Trio for an early Christmas gift, singing Rock in! Around The Christmas tree! I will also buy her some of her favorite skin moisturizer and eye cream, and some clothes. We are very comfortable having everything we need, she says she does not want anything for Christmas, but when I mention sending money to her family’s nieces and nephews for clothes this makes her very happy. We will go on vacation overseas this March and she plans on going on a shopping spree then.

Also St. Nicholas Day just passed...Dec 6...children clean their shoes up real good, and leave them out for St. Nicholas to see them Dec 6. If the child is good, gets Santa Calus shaped chocolates and such, but if is bad...then gets a man (I forget the name...been so long) with a black face and horns representing the devil who gives them a stick that they get beat with :lo:

OMG! Henia  that is the scariest/funniest tradition I have ever heard of! I thought the correct punishment for being bad all year was to get a lump of coal, not... beaten by Satan

Well in the US, it is coal, but Europe I believe it the switch... I guess getting beat works better!

I asked what my husband wanted me to bring him/holiday gift...his reply: YOU! (of course) and some thermal underwear... I was cracking up! Glad to know he is easy to please!

This is a perfect example of US Feelings of Entitlement. In the American version, even if you were rotten all year long, you still come away with something[/]; a piece of coal (which you can possibly use to throw at a sibling who got actual gifts).

I'm getting my husband undies too lol

I'm giving Joel a Flight Sim Yoke for Christmas, since he is really into his Fligh Sim program...good training for when he actually starts pilot training one day. We're also buying a new computer together, sort of a Christmas gift to both of us, since I work for the school system and can get a discount on a Dell. :)

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
