Hello everyone, my fiance and I are trying to figure out about how long each of our options for marriage would keep us apart...please help!

Im American and we plan on living here (at least for now) because I already have my career set etc.

If we got married in France about how long are the spousal visas taking to get? And afterwards how long does it take to have the right to work here in the states?

If we go the k1 fiancé visa route how long would that take approximately? And how long afterwards to have the right to wok here?

Third option, he comes to visit (no visa required for three months) and we get hitched...what is the procedure then? He would go back to France during this time for work and school. And again, how long until he would have the right to work here?

Thank you all for your time!

This was great, thank you! I tried to find something similar and I couldn't. Will my spouse (once he's my spouse) be able to visit me in the states while waiting for the k3 visa to be approved?

If he can satisfy the immigration officer that he will be going home yes. But it can be difficult as you are planning on immigrating at some point, why would he leave. Proof of employment, Home in France etc will help.

So you only have two options. First and third are the same -- both are doing consular processing in France. The only difference is where you get married, and that doesn't matter. From what I hear it takes about a year.

For K1, it is quicker to get and come to the U.S. However, he has to wait until you guys are married, then filed for AOS (along with EAD), and then get the EAD (which takes 60-90 days after filing) to be able to work.

From what I hear, K3 is obsolete. Use consular processing instead.
