Muleshoe? My dad's family used to live in Muleshoe before they moved to California, probably in the late '30's or early 40's.

A few years ago when I was in Lubbock, I intended to visit Muleshoe, but something took me the opposite direction down (?) U.S. 84, because I went to Post instead.

West Texas is a fine place to be from. Until north of Amarillo, the land can be so flat and the cities so small that, on a particularly windy day, the town chicken can end up laying the same egg four times.

i've already deleted them, but i was banned several days after i received them.

John, a lesser but important part of it is that the above is a pinned thread, begun nearly 4 years ago, and the most recent post of any substance before yours was from 2011. Folks gotta check the origination dates of threads and how long it's been since the last log-on of whoever they plan to respond to. Responding intemperately to a so-called zombie thread (stale situation) might draw even stronger scrutiny.

A good rule of thumb is this: Compose absolutely whatever you want, but before hitting "add reply," preview the post, read it as though you're an objective third party, and ask yourself whether it actually is inflammatory, offensive, demeaning, or whatever (see the Terms of Service for some good guidelines) or could be perceived in that way. If your common sense says that it is (or might be) one of those things, then edit it, tailor it, massage it. Sometimes it will take a meat-cleaver, and sometimes it might require only a sculptor's knife. Avoid "ready, fire, aim" at all costs.

You might be surprised at which VJ members followed the above plan and saved themselves a lot of grief, over time, and got a lot of supportive comments from others about their temperate, reasoned, well-stated points. There are certain ways and there are other ways of saying things. Please consider this.

John, I just read these, first putting myself in the position of a neutral observer with "uh-oh -- what is this going to say" trepidation. The first two moderation replies that you sent were constructive and, objectively speaking, stated quite kindly. They elegantly and succinctly made the same points that I've posted just above. The third was an accurate evaluation of the situation and an appropriate reaction.

No one is denying or trashing your opinions -- you have every right to what you want to think! The point is that there's a proper time, venue, and tone for posting certain opinions. Get a handle on these, and everyone will feel much better -- other members, the moderators, and you.

Congrats TBone. But why? Who wants to be a Mod ... We have had our disagreements over the years. I read what you write as I do with all others and helpful mostly all the time. There are some Moderators that have been in their position to long and Out-of-Touch. Don't be one of them.
