You're right. Sorry if I pointed it out, it's not my business.

So let's be clear... you think the old man was innocent, even though he fired a shot thru the door at police?

I have no idea. There are not enough facts in the story to make sense of what actually happened.

However, the US is a police state, I have been told that's my opinion, I am finding proof that this is true.

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Yes, I agree with you and Penny. They disarm police in the UK, why not here?.

I think we just need the gun laws like they have in Switzerland...don't you?

OMG I was in Geneva earlier this week and went to an AWESOME gun shop full of real machine guns which regular people can buy. If you are a former reserve member you get them subsidized! Then we could disarm the police like in UK I had a nice long chat with the shop owner. The Swiss are armed to the teeth! 1 in 10 citizens has a machine gun, nearly every home has a firearm of one sort or another. There are more than 3000 shooting ranges on a country of 6 million the size of PA. Imagine 3000 shooting ranges in the LA area for example.

You like the Swiss gun laws, right? I do!

Yes, as a matter of fact I think the gun laws in Switzerland are a lot more sensible than gun laws in the US. However, the fact that you may once have visited a gun shop in Switzerland doesn't make you any more rational about it than you were before.

As for disarming police sure, have it the same as in the UK, I would be all for it but as it happens, they don't knowingly send unarmed police into situations where they will encounter armed civilians in the UK and never did. In this situation, the UK police would have responded with an armed unit. Shocking isn't it?

There are just enough facts to dispute your claim of the old man's innocence, and that is what I was getting at with the crack pipe response. Only a delusional person would attempt to claim the defense of innocence in the case.

While the term "police state" is quite broad, I don't think it applies, or at least not completely, to the US.

"The inhabitants of a police state experience restrictions on their mobility, and on their freedom to express or communicate political or other views, which are subject to police monitoring or enforcement. Political control may be exerted by means of a secret police force which operates outside the boundaries normally imposed by a constitutional state."

If the above were true, FB would not exist today, nor would the anti-governmental sentiments be allowed to remain on people's walls as they do. Comparing the US to... say.... North Korea, I'd say we are FAR from a police state. A boat full of North Koreans were found on the South side of the DMZ a few years ago because their motor quit working. They were gladly returned to North Korea, where they were promptly executed publicly. That would never happen here in the US. People are free to come and go. People are free to post or say whatever they want without fear of being killed by a secret police force. The video I just posted about the judge bashing our president proves that.

Excellent post. I am converting to your point of view. I just need a bit more evidence to be completely convinced.

I'm not trying to convert you. I am not the leader of a religious cult. Just stating what I know to be true. I have seen some drastic things all over the world in my life. I have seen villages bombed into ruins because they accepted US humanitarian food drops. I have seen the Polizei walking around the airport armed with Uzis, ready to use them. I was nearby when those North Koreans were executed. I have seen first-hand how the poor souls of N.K. are forced to live, and how they are lied to about their families in S. Korea, told that they are forced into slavery and eat only rice once a day, while S. Korea is one of the fastest-advancing countries in the world. I watched the stupidity of the GZ trial, and how ignorant people reacted after he was found innocent. I see people in the US making choices every day, because they have the freedom to. Are we the law-less wilderness we were 120 years ago? No. But we are far from living in a police state.

Shooting at police officers isn't all that innocent.

So if someone attacks you, you have the right to defend yourself. What a odd concept

Nothing odd about it. Been saying it all along.

Show me where you said GZ had a right to defend himself ?

P.S. I know you know things..Where is Marvin..?
