I think the K1 process goes faster at the NVC because the paper work is processed at the Embassy. Also CR1's have more back ground checks before the visa. Once you enter the USA your visa is equal to a green card .So they have to make sure everything is correct. K1's have to adjust status once married. Then more paper work and then most have an interview at the local USCIS office.

I know I had to think hard about which visa to go after. But since my husband is from a Muslim country all the lawyers I checked with said it would be better to do a CR1 visa.

But I truly understand your frustrations. I watched as for 3 months as the Embassy in Turkey did almost all K1 visa and almost no CR1's. Some people were approved at the NVC in Jan and Feb 2013 and didn't get a CR1 interview till June 2013.

the K1 vs the CR1. Well it takes longer on a K1 to get a green card. It takes longer to be able to work and costs almost twice as much. That's why many of us filed the CR1. I knew the CR1 would take longer to get than the K1 visa, but we decided that the CR1 was the better visa for us.

All the NVC does for the K1 is give them a DOS number and sends their petition to the embassy or consulate. The embassy or consulate does all the document intake for K1.

Is it frustrating? Heck ya it is! Spouses should be together quicker than fiancés IMHO, but it is what it is. They don't have to prove a relationship as much as an IR1/CR1 case has to but they can't work or travel for a minimum of 3 months after getting to the USA. Guess that's why you have to really decide what is the most important.
