Hi everyone,

I'm new here and excited to be part of the forum! My green card is employment based and now getting ready to file for citizenship. Almost ready with the form N-400 for both me and my wife but have some last minute questions, I would appreciate if you could chime in with your thoughts. Thanks

I have been member in some professional and religious organizations. In my I-485 application (Adjustment of Status, employment based), I provided their abbreviated names so for example I wrote IEEE instead of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. I-485 asks name dates of memeberships and nature of the organization.

N-400 part 10: Section B on the other hand asks for just the names of organizations the applicant has ever belonged to, can I provide the same abbreviated names as I did on I-485 with little explanation in brackets, for example:

IEEE [Professional, Engineering]
ABC[Faith based community center]

Should membership to clubs like AAA or local wholesale club (BJs, CostCo, Sam's club) also needs to be disclosed here?

PS: I will be posting other questions in its own thread so it will be useful for others to follow and find info easily.

Some more detail to help you answer this better.

In my original I-485 applciation sent to USCIS, I had put none in response to "Have you ever been associated with any organizations...." only to later realize that I should have entered the list of organization etc

I sent a one page letter specifying that reason ("I misunderstood the question on I-485 and wrote none") why I didn't provide the information in the first place and then gave the list that looked something like this:

IEEE [Professional, Engineering]
ABC [Professional, Engineering]
XYZ [Faith Based Community Center]
DEF [social Justice]

ABC, DEF and XYZ are not real names, I'm just using them here for illustration purposes. One thing to note though is that XYZ organization, I said faith based I didn't say which faith (hint: one of the Abrahamic faiths].

Should I use the same abbreviated format that I provided for I-485 or should I use the long descriptive name of those orgs?

Attorneys advise to be consistent among immigration filings.

If this comes up during the interview, I can explain what's their full names?

Sorry not to be rude but literally have to send in the N400 tomorrow so finalizing some real last minute details..will appreciate any input from fellow member.

Regarding the affiliations, If I enter the abbreviated form with the explanation in brackets (just like I did on my I485 form), it fits on the space provided for name of the organization. If I do the full expanded name, I will have to attach additional page.

Not sure if it's worth it to attach additional page or just go with the abbreviated names. also the abbreviated names are not like household names so some sort of explanation will be in order (as simple as "professional engineering or social justice etc"

Just don't want to do something that may causes unncessary delay in the early stages of processing.

You could do that just to be safe if the officer in the interview questioned you why you didn't mention that in I485 tell the truth (I didn't know). I have some stuff that I should've mentioned in my I485 and my I751 but I didn't know about them until probably 1 month ago. So I'll see once I apply how the outcome will be. Good luck.

yeah I'm leaning towards providing both, the complete name and abbreviations so that way there's a match between I-485 and N-400 but if they need the descriptive names to check whatever, it's there on N-400 as well.
