Hi guys, I have one problem while filing I-485. I am green card holder, came in US in 2011 and got married on February. We filed I-130 and since visa date is current we want to file I-485 but the problem is I am not working right. I did one month project and after that I am staying home and searching for the job. I have paid my tax in 2011 but its below poverty guideline but I am good for 2012. My question would be what should I do while I am filing affidavit of support? Can one of my friends, who is US citizen, be sponsor my wife or how to do in this case? What is the option for affidavit of support?

You will still be the primary sponsor and fill out your I-864 and provide supporting documents. Your joint sponsor will fill out their own separate I-864 and provide their supporting documents like most recent tax transcript, letter from employer and/or recent pay stubs. They will also need to provide proof of being a USC.

@Jay-kay, do you have any idea that poverty guidelines affect joint sponsor?? The person I am talking about has 2 children and wife, and they are all citizen - they are not working so he has to support 3 people in household. If he supports my wife then he will be supporting 4 people. Does his income should be more than 23,437 according to HHS Poverty Guideline?? Does he need to have his tax payment of 2012 and current pay-scale range, he is business man so what exactly is the criteria??

He will need to have enough for a household of 5, his own household size of 4 plus the intending immigrant, which is $34,462. He is self-employed? Then line 22 of his 2012 1040 form(total income) should meet the requirement. He can also include copies of any profit/loss statements he may have for his business so far in 2013. http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864p.pdf

Self-employed should include a complete copy of their most recent tax return with all forms, schedules, attachments, 1099s, W-2s, etc.
