Hey - yer welcome. Now that you've had ample input about this,

what's your refactored plan ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

It has been almost 7 months since my last post about this issue. Since I was so annoyed with the event, I never came back to report on what we did, so here is the tell:

We went back to the SS office once more. I insisted on seeing a supervisor, but she also assured me that they could not let my K1 wife and my K2 son apply for a SS number because the marriage had removed their K1 and K2 right to apply for the SS numbers.

Again, my state government employer would not allow me to add my new wife and son on my health care insurance coverage until they had their SS numbers.

So, I just went to work as productively as I could on their AOS paperwork. I got it submitted by the end of September, and by early December, we had the Employment Authorization Documents in hand. Wife and son have been on the health insurance since Jan 1, 2014, and we have been making GOOD use of the coverage since then.

Amazingly, wife also received her GC in late-December 2013, but son's AOS application has been really dragged out. I had both wife and son's vaccination records transcribed by a Civil Surgeon, but in February I got an RFE on son's AOS because it seems the physical medical exam that he entered the USA with was somehow lost (the POE officer had to of seen this medical when son was allowed into the country. we didn't lose these medical documents because they were sealed inside the Visa entry packet that we were not allowed to open, and then these documents were taken from wife and son at the POE). So, I tried hard to explain that my K2 son only needed to provide the immunization records transcribed onto the I-693 that we had already provided, but USCIS assured me that they did not care. So, we went back to the civil surgeon, paid for all of the stuff, plus the medical exam and a new TB test too......, submitted all of this, then got another RFE (OMG)....., they said I didn't check some box (perhaps so). But anyway, I think his GC is finally on the way now. Mostly, I was just relieved to get them both on my health insurance by Jan 1, 2014 (almost 6 months after our wedding).

Still proud of myself for doing all of this without any legal help, but it is true that I could have NEVER done it without the guidance of VJ. Thanks to all those who have helped, and who listened to my rants too.
