Timeline

Our rep is Congressman Joe Wilson. They've gone after USCIS at every point if we've asked them to, even in our K-1 to get us all updates when they first started sending them to TSC. I'd strongly recommend everyone to at least try reaching out to their representative. You'll never get anything from USCIS directly. I got a response to my service request the day before my status update saying "Your petition/application is still pending consideration. We regret that we are not able to give you a timeframe for when we will complete the review of your petition/application."

They clearly had an answer given the fact that they'd told our rep days earlier that it was now at New Jersey and would be decided by the end of the week, but they don't bother to provide any answers and just send you a generic response telling you to wait. They won't actually investigate unless they have to respond to someone with clout. In 2013, they even asked their main rep in DC about my case to get some definitive answers.

My medical was done in August 2013.

Hi,

Can I ask about the date of you interview waiver letter? How did you contact your congressman, by phone or writing e-mail?

Our rep is Congressman Joe Wilson.

QueenOfBlades

That explains a lot. I like Joe. He appears, as illustratated by your case, to be an advocate for his constituents, who he is beholden to. He went to bat for you and that's great. I'll just say that mine has not and will not and has an agenda that does not include people in our circumstance...it's that simple...No matter what people say or feel about Joe Wilson, he gets the job done...

Again congratulations and thanks for the information...

I have a friend visiting from the UK in June and we're planning on a road trip to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. We were just talking about it and I mentioned it will be my first land border crossing out of / into the U.S. I caught myself saying the words "It should be fine, I'll have my green card by then".

Over optimistic?

Many (but not all) are receiving their Welcome to America letter by their 11th month after their receipt date. That is sure what we hope will happen to us as we approach month 10. You might be ok.

I dont know if it helps but i wanted to share my experience at the POE in Dallas. At last minute my flight was changed to enter through Dallas and it is so fast compared to others I have been at before. Line was short and fast. My case was a little bit different as my GC was approved while I was abroad and I did not know what to expect with immigration officer. When I got there and I showed my AP he seemed to know what it was and made me fill out an I-94, he was suuuper nice to me the entire time, after I filled out the form he told me I had to go through secondary inspection and it took them about 25-30 minutes to give me my passport back, they stamped it as paroled until jan 2016 but I am just waiting to get my physical GC and there wont be troubles anymore! The whole experience was a dream compared to what I expected... I am very pleased about it. Also... if you are still waiting for a decision is best to contact your congressman's office, they make the USCIS give clear and exact answers so fast! they were a blessing. I am so happy this is over for now. Good luck on your journey!

We got our notice of potential interview waiver Dec 11 2014. My husband used his advance parole to go home for the holidays so he no longer has that. However, we were planning on having our wedding ceremony in his country this May (we are already married on K1 of course), and now I'm worried that he won't have his green card in time?? Does anyone know if he can get another advance parole or if there is anything we can do so that he is allowed to leave and reenter the US?

Advanced Parole is multiple use. You can use it for repeated entry for as long as it's valid, or until permanent residency is granted.

Thank you! I just realized that I misunderstood it, I thought that they had taken all of his AP documents at the borders but they did leave one to him. Very relieved.

Does anyone fancy dialing into this teleconference on 22nd January 2015 and flying the flag for the NPIW club? Is there somebody in D.C. that could go in person? It looks like a great opportunity to ask questions. I'd do it but I'm sure there are more articulate people that would do a better job! I found the information on the AILA website but it looks like it's open to anyone.

I'm glad you had a better time than I did at PHL airport but my bad experience of entering on AP was more down to a horrible TSA officer (imagine that).

Once you have the AP stamp in your passport I dont think you have to go back to secondary inspection on any subsequent occasion.

Just to check in with those who have used their AP (I'm assuming you have AP/EAD combo cards?):

All you need to do is show the AP card with your passport (and marriage certificate as I have different names on my documents) at immigration?

Does the airline need to see the documents before boarding?

Has anyone had any issues with the airline not recognizing AP cards?

I'm just ultra-paranoid I'll fail to file an important form or something. Plus the whole different names in different countries makes me worry :)

Take you I-797 that you received with you AP with you. That is an official watermarked USCIS document that explains in brief what AP is. If you read it over you can see it says you can travel and if any conditions apply to the travel. We use AP every weekend. When my wife uses AP she hands them the card and the I-797 together, they read over it and understand exactly what they're looking at.

I just called USCIS once again, for the first time ever I tried asking for a tier 2, the guy says "Umm why what's the issue?" So I told him about the interview waiver letter, not hearing anything since May etc. and he asks for my case number and goes through the usual reading of the online status, and then tells me "Well I can't see anything else here unfortunately and I won't be able to put you through to an officer" I even mentioned the fact service requests get assigned and unassigned randomly but he didn't really give an explanation to that either...

Engagement Invitation

Dialogue with USCIS Director León Rodríguez
Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 at 2 p.m. (Eastern)
Tomich Conference Center, 111 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20529
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) invites you to participate in a stakeholder teleconference on Thursday, Jan. 22 from 2-3 p.m. (Eastern), with USCIS Director León Rodríguez. Director Rodríguez will highlight agency initiatives and listen and respond to issues of concern to the stakeholder community.

So Natonstan, does that mean you're volunteering to take this matter all the way to the top for us? ;-)
