A little advanced warning - this will be a lengthy rant.

As you can see from my timeline:

POE: 01/23/14

Married: 02/28/14 (yes, anniversary tomorrow)

NOA: 04/03/14

EAD/AP: 06/13/14

NPIW: 07/10/14

My congressman got involved over the new year, and I was told 10 days ago I would have some sort of decision in four weeks.

Today I get home from a lovely week long anniversary getaway in Yosemite. Feeling good. I see a letter from the USCIS - no email about a GC, but hey, USCIS is not always on the ball about emailing me. And when I open it I get this:

Your application to adjust status has been transferred to the Yakima Field Office for completion. After review, USCIS is ready to GRANT your application - HOWEVER - you must first complete page 5 (included) of Form I-693 (Report of Medical Examination and Vaccination Record). Please complete with a USCIS Civil Surgeon as soon as you can. Upon return of your updated form, I will approve your application and request a Lawful Resident card for you.

Yes, it is good that I have at least some contact from the USCIS. I get that. However, it is currently after 5pm on a Friday (and I only got the letter fifteen minutes ago). The only civil surgeon in my area open has no bookings until March 24th. Then I'll have to wait for my paperwork, re-send it, and wait from approval (fingers crossed). Plus pay $300. And probably a flu shot, which I didn't need the first time as it was during the Australian summer.

I did my Medical exam in Australian Nov 2013. So yes it has expired, although I filed in March/April, so I thought the one year deadline didn't count for us. WRONG.

Also, my service request ended in LAC. I live in LA. The Tier One said my file was in LAC (though I never trusted that). WRONG (it's in Washington).

Oh, did I add I'm leaving the country in seven days for my Dad's wedding? Great timing on all of this.

Rant complete. Thank you for listening/reading.

That sucks! I'm so sorry. It makes me so angry that they can treat us like that when it is completely THEIR FAULT it has taken so long! We have very similar dates so the same thing will probably happen to me. Although what makes it even more infuriating is that there seems to be no consistency on who has to re-do their medical. If I was you I'd try to consult a tier 2 officer and ask them why you have to re-do it when others don't. It will probably come to nothing but damn if it doesn't make me mad enough to yell at someone.

So we received the elusive green card today! I just wanted to post a couple of things to show the process (that happened for us - may be different for others) after you're approved just in case any of you are wondering, because frankly I've been sitting on pins and needles since the approval last Friday.

The Status-es

1. Your Case Status: Card/Document Production ... On DATE, we ordered your new card for Receipt Number XXX, and will mail it to the address you gave us. ... (No date given on when to expect it) - We received this on on Feb 20, 2015

2. Your Case Status: Decision ... On DATE, we registered your permanent resident status and mailed you a Welcome notice for Receipt Number XXX. ... (Approx 2 months as to when you'll receive card) We received this on Feb 23, 2015

3. Your Case Status: Card/Document Production ... On DATE we mailed your new card for Receipt Number XXX, to the address you gave us. ... (Approx 1 month as to when you'll received card) We received this on Feb 26, 2015

4. Card shows up in the mail! Priority Mail - Flat Rate Envelope / We received this on Feb 27, 2015.

The card does in fact come from the dungeon in Lee's Summit MO. (And as some of you already know, our case was adjudicated in Philadelphia PA whereas our local office is Tampa FL)

Also, I've attached a photo to show that green cards do in fact exist! And apparently they have wireless capabilities, but not when they are within their super sekret special envelopes. (Sorry, if you see the picture, you'll understand that last sentence).

Lastly, I just wanted to say thank you to all of you guys. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!!! I've been a lurker here most of the time, but the knowledge I gained from this site and from you guys, well B & I would not be where we are today without you, all of you. So from the bottom of my heart, Cheers!

I really hope to see you guys in about 21 months, because we're going to need you again come ROC.

OMG they do exist! Lol enjoy!

Page 5 are the vaccinations. Don't think you'll have to pay full price. I know some doctors want to charge full price for just the vaccinations but they should only charge a fraction of the cost of the medical. If I were you I would look for doctors in cities around me that don't charge the full price. I think it's worth driving a few hours if they have an appointment sooner.

Yeah, it sucks, but realize this, you are approved save for the RFE for the medical. The history is that within days of receiving an RFE response you'll get the welcome letter. Yes it is a pain in the butt. Yes it is a full employment for Civil Surgeons decision by USCIS and yes it ain't your fault. You can't fight city hall on this one. And if you can't find a Civil Surgeon in LA that can see you in 24 hours, then no one can. Bite the bullet (hopefully it does not discharge). Grouse, moan , complain, write your Congressman, the USCIS ombudsman, but do that after the GC. Yeah it stinks, but you are now closer than all the rest of us...

And we have the same dates, BUT our lawyer made us do another medical before the AOS (around mid March 2014 - yeah we paid twice as well). But if it goes even longer, we may have to pay for a third.

Not get re-vaccinated, but get the form filled out for them and have a civil surgeon sign off on them. It's possible that the form they submitted might have gone missing or was filled out incorrectly and that's why they are asking for it again.

This absolutely sucks. I kind of want you to write to the office manager and ask why other people in the same position don't have to get new vaccination sheets done, but what's the point. I'd roll over and pay but it's so frustrating!

So your case has gone to the Yakima field office and you live in Los Angeles, huh? These NPIW cases really do get about, don't they! At least yours is on the right side of the country, I suppose.
