My fiancee is Japanese and she received mail from the US Embassy. The instructions that she received states that she should do a DS-260 form after making an online profile. Upon checking it out, she has to fill in her NVC Case Number and her Invoice ID Number. We don't have these numbers anywhere. Is this because she didn't do Step 1 yet (i.e., fill in the DS-230 Part 1 and send it in?). Please let me know what you guys can remember about this. Thanks.

You can do one of two things:

1. Fill out the online form DS-260. You can obtain your NVC Case Number and Invoice ID Number by calling the NVC. Alternatively, the beneficiary can put in her birthdate in the format YYYYMMDD in the "Invoice ID" field.

2. Fill out the form DS-230 Part I. There is no need to do both since the DS-260 is put in place to replace the DS-230 for Immigrant visas. You will need clarification from the embassy on whether they require you to fill out DS-230 or DS-260 for the K1 visa since this is processed differently than an immigrant visa.

The same thing happened to me, whereby, I was notified by the US Embassy here to fill out a DS-260. However, after several failed attempts to log into the CEAC and complete the DS-260, the Embassy informed me that they were wrong and, at this time, the DS-260 is not being used for K1 visa applicants. They accepted my DS-230 Part I instead and assigned me an interview date.

Called NVC last night and was given case number, invoice # and beneficiary ID. I was able to log in and see fiancée info. I was also told that the DS230 is no longer in use. Everyone must fill out DS260. This became effective after Labor Day.

On what site do you enter Ben ID and see their info?

You don't as a K1.

as far as I can see from the IR1/CR1 forums, you don't need the BIN to do the DS-260 anymore.

But otherwise you must contact the NVC to get the NVC number and IIN (invoice identification number)
