Hi everyone! My fiance and I are debating on filing a fiance or spouse visa and what the weddings would be like accordingly. I know the pros and cons of each visa but I am still having trouble moving forward with our plans. I would love to hear different wedding stories and get some inspiration from other LDR couples. Seems like no one really understands our immigration hardships, could really appreciate the input of people who have been through it! So come on and reminisce about your wedding day! What did you love? What would you do differently? Any particular immigration difficulties or was it smooth sailing? How do you plan a wedding with the fiance visa when you can't be sure when it will be approved? Just hope for the best? Thanks for any and all input!

*** Thread moved from CR-1 Process forum to General Immigration Discussion -- topic isn't a CR-1 process issue. ***

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Ha, our marriage date was established according to the deadlines and requirements of the USCIS, After all, they have the final say as to whether we could live together or not.

In regards to our marriage reception, had two of them, one with my family here, the other in my wife's home country. Was absolutely impossible to bring both families together, not to mention the huge cost.

It wasn't the good old fashion way, where I would ask my wife's dad for permission for his daughters hand in marriage, was like asking the government for their permission. We also spent our honeymoon filling out immigration forms, real honeymoon came later.

And it wasn't like the USCIS gave us a nice wedding present, they wanted a huge nice wedding present from us.

And it wasn't like the USCIS said congratulations for getting married, far more interested in whether we committed fraud or not, had to prove that.

It was also a lot easier for us to get married in the US than in my wife's home country and a heck of a lot cheaper. This played an important role in where to get married. This took the burden off of us where and when to get married.

Well, we were debating where to do it and when. Back then it seemed that both fiancee and spouse visas were taking approximately the same time (and i hoped we'd file in like December lol), so we decided to go for spouse visa since then i'd be allowed to work immediately. So we did the wedding in Moscow. I loved the whole day: it went very smoothly especially given my parents have been divorced since i was 9 and hadn't seen each other since. It was a very small wedding too, only 11 people including us. But everything went perfectly well. Proof video. smile.png

I'm the beneficiary.

That was back then, we finally got to the stage where we could live happily ever after.

How do you think an ex-military guy and a CEO likes taking orders from a kid not even dry behind the ears yet. Had to be very nice and polite, that kid has your future in his hands.

We decided to get married in the US. Just like NickD, it was so much easier to get married in the States than in Greece. We had a civil ceremony at our county courthouse.

It was just me, my husband and his nephew who was our photographer/witness. My husband said that since no one from my family could be there on the day, no one from his will be either and we will just have 2 receptions!

We just had our big formal wedding reception in Greece on August 1st and it was beautiful! Our next one will be in the States, after visa is issued and I'm there for good. It wont be as formal as the one in Greece, more like a pool party with wedding cake!!

My wedding story - not so romantic LOL. We got married in my husband's country (Morocco). It took us 29 days to get through the process which included running from city to city gathering documents, a required police investigation, a judge who wanted to give us trouble and did not want to issue the permission to marry. So it was not the most romantic. But I would not change a thing about it. I got to see what a patient man my husband is and how well he handles himself under stress. And it was stressful. But we are so much closer because of it. And now we are in the visa waiting game.

To me it didn't matter to much HOW we got married - it was much more important that we DID get married.
