About 6 years ago I took a trip there to do some charity work, I was told this was like the 6th poorest county in the nation, well anyway,

I was a little surprised that more than half of the people who came through the door for food and Christmas gifts were..... Black.

It's not that there were many Blacks in the area (that I observed anyway) but they seemed to respond to charity in healthy numbers.

the other surprise was, here we were in the middle of American poverty and we had stuff left over at the end of the weekend, so it was donated to a local charity place on the way out.

The place was Jefferson WV.

i live about fifteen minutes away from the wva line, eastern panhandle. white poverty in wva is nowhere close to myth status; white generational poverty is very real in wva and very prevalent.
