A recap of our interview.

Went in about 30 minutes before our appointment time. The wife felt silly carrying around all of our evidence in a big box, but the people at the security just joked that it must be a cake for them.

We sat in an area with a surprisingly large amount of other couples – a few with their lawyers. I noticed that the average time for a couple to go in and come out to be maybe 20 minutes. After about an hour wait, we got called into the IO’s office; a middle aged stern-ish looking, but nice man called us in. After explaining what the purpose of the interview was, he assured us that he would try not to be too intrusive, but that it was his job to find evidence of a real marriage and not one that was for immigration benefits.

We then took the oath and he asked me (beneficiary) and the wife for our passports and her birth certificate. He removed my I-94 immediately after i handed him my passport. He then asked us to verify our names, address and dates of birth. He asked about my last point of entry and asked about school - if I was still attending, how long until I graduate, etc. He then asked us to tell him how we met (wife answered) and how/where I proposed (which I answered), if I had met her parents and if she had met mine. Then he asked to about the wedding (who was there) and asked if we had any additional photos, and even though there were years of photos of us together he really only looked at the wedding pics and honeymoon trip. We also submitted some new documents that we got after the packet was sent off like car, life, and health insurance. He then said ‘everything looks great’ and then asked me the yes/no questions from the I-485. He then said that he was going to approve our application and explained the ROC procedure to us. He congratulated us and we left the office. We then noticed that we didn’t even get to open the big box of cards, letters, and emails that we had put together!

We went out for some food to celebrate and by the time we got home a few hours later, my I-485 case was updated to ‘Card production ordered’ (I didn't sign up for emails, I just rely on the USCIS tracker website).

Overall it was quite nerve racking initially, but our IO was very professional throughout the process and more conversational in his questioning which helped us not stress out. The whole interview probably took about 30 minutes, but it really didn’t feel that long. I must say that everyone we encountered at the Seattle office throughout the process (biometrics included) was very friendly and helpful. I thought it was going to be terrible like the DOL. rofl.gif

My wife (the applicant) returned last week from her first visit home in 10 months. She has her AP but had an interesting encounter at the border/airport. She was questioned about her intent during her previous entries and her passport and EAD/AP combo card were taken to a separate room for review. She was not sent to secondary. It rattled her a bit since she wasn't expecting the Customs and Border agent to be so inquisitive. Anyway, she was re-admitted to the US without issue and she's happy to be back!

Still waiting on our interview date... looks like it will be in 2014. At least we have her AP/EAD. I'm sure our address change slowed things down...

Glad to see others are getting their GCs on here! Go September Filers!

Hey everyone!

We just got back from the interview and we were approved on the spot smile.png I was definitely over-worrying, as usual hehe

So here's the story:

We got to the office about 30 minutes before the interview, got through security just fine and waited in a big room with a few other couples, most of them with their lawyers, which I found interesting, since we never felt the need to hire a lawyer.
About 10 minutes after our interview time we were called by a lady, who seemed very nice straight away. She apologized for not saying my last name because it's so hard to pronounce - I get that a lot hehe
We went into her office, she told us not to sit down and swore us in.

Once we sat down she started by saying that she used to live in Brazil, but she forgot all her portuguese and told us if we ever had kids, to make sure we teach them both languages hehe she was very light hearted and definitely made us feel at ease.

Then she said she saw the lovely pictures we had sent with our file and she returned them to us, even though I told them she could keep them with the file ... then she told my husband she noticed he had been to Portugal a few times already and asked him how we met - I was expecting her to ask me, since I'm the beneficiary haha but it was all good ...she asked me when we decided to get married and how he proposed. She went on to ask about my husband's job, since we recently moved here and if I plan on going back to the same line of work I was in back in my home country.

She finally asked if we had any extra documents we'd like to add to our file, and she was truly impressed how much stuff we had managed to get under both our names without me having a SSN haha

After that she asked if we had any other questions and said she was gonna approve us today and everything looked great smile.png

She told us to expect the card in the mail in about 2 weeks and told us about ROC.

People were truly nice all throughout this process at the Portland office and I couldn't have asked for a smoother process. I'm truly relieved this is over - at least for the next 2 years - and I am very thankful for all of you here that kept my hopes up!

It really is true that you shouldn't worry much if you have a true relationship and nothing to hide. It does, however, help if your office is a nice person, like ours was hehe smile.png

Oh and I don't think I ever mentioned it, but we were adjusting from VWP - in case anyone was wondering.
