Hi all

I just received my hard copy NOA2 yay.biggrin.png

However I like to ask what paperwork I need to submit after I arrive in the US. helpsmilie.gif

I understand that I will need to file for an adjustment of status after we are married.

Can I apply for a work permit when I arrive in the states.

I appreciate in explaining what is necessary and when I need to file.

If you've just got your K1 NOA2, you've still got a couple of months to go before you'll be in the US.

Sounds like you need to do some reading hon :) To get an idea of the 'flow' of the K1 (if that is indeed what you are applying for) go here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow Or just pop up the top of this page to the Guides section, for the relevant info. For specific questions, try the search box up top, odds are someone else would have been asking it, too!

K1 is valid for 6 months from the date of your medical; you have 90 days from entering the USA on the K1, to get married. After that comes AOS etc.

AOS // 12 months 3 days
April 13, 2014 NOA1 - April 16, 2015 Approved

April 27, 2015 Greencard received

K-1 // 8 months

A NOA2 doesn't grant you anything and it sure doesn't mean you have your visa just yet.

Now you have to have a medical and an interview at your local US consulate. If you pass both, medical and the interview, then you'll have a K1 visa and it's valid for 6 months, meaning you have 6 months to travel to the US.

Once you've entered the US you have 90 days to get married and usually people file for their AOS as soon as they have all the documents needed.

Thanks Laura congrats on getting your visa how long are the K1 valid for?

Do we have to get married straight away or do we have time before departing for the United States.

The K1 is valid for 6 months from the date of your medical exam. You can enter the US anytime within the 6 months, but once you do, you need to marry within 90 days. Then you apply for AOS.

How much reading have you done about the next steps? (i.e., your medical and interview)

Please keep in mind that some dates are only known after receipt of another document.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

You can't apply for a work permit, you will need your EAD (employment authorization document).

Once you are in the US, marry and file for AOS (K1 applicants normally file for AOS, EAD and AP together) you have to wait until you recieve your EAD in the mail AND have your SSN. Then you will be able to work.

Without your EAD and SSN you cannot legally work in the US.
