Kerry Warns U.S. Inaction in Syria Puts Israel in Danger. Israel Says It Can Handle It.

Israel is unhappy that the White House is citing concern over the country's safety as it builds its case before Congress for a strike, according to a report on Israel's Channel 2 news Monday night cited by The Times of Israel. "We don't need America to take care of threats to Israel," one unnamed senior official said.

Tuesday's hearing wasn't the first time Kerry cited Israel as an ally in need of protection from a potential Syrian chemical-weapons attack. In a statement on Friday, he said that taking action "matters to our security and the security of our allies. It matters to Israel."

At the hearing, he elaborated on the danger the Assad regime poses to Israel. "I can make it crystal clear to you that Israel will be less safe unless the United States takes this action," Kerry told Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who suggested that military action could lead Assad to retaliate against the U.S. by attacking its Middle Eastern allies such as Israel, Jordan, and Turkey.

Israel's U.S. ambassador, Michael Oren, however, is not worried about that. "I've heard it suggested that a reason why the U.S. should not act in Syria is fear of retribution against Israel," he said in a statement Tuesday night. "In response, I say unequivocally that Israel can defend itself and will respond forcefully to any aggression by Syria."

We have this situation because Obama is a p*ssy. If he were actually going to do something, then the missiles just need to start landing and blowing things up and afterwards say "Oh, yeah...that was me. we sent those from Missouri"

This whole thing is nothing but a political exercise to cover his p*ssified Presidency. He is actually hopng the Republicans will shut it down so he can "balme them" for inaction. The President does ot need congressional approval to strike Syria. It should be as big a surprise for congress as it is for the Syrians...if he is actually going to do anything.

When he WANTS to do something (ie, kill bin laden or shoot Somali pirates in the head) he does not need to consult congress. When he wants to play political games, he does this.

The whole thing is nonsense. And Mr. Anti-war John Kerry looks more foolish now than when he asked "Can I get me a huntin' license here?"

But I can tell you, whether Obama does anything or not, the TWO people guaranteed to survive this are Obama and Assad. Nothing will change.

I really hope Syria limits their actions to rock-throwing 12-yr-olds (Israeli definition of a terrorist) and people having dinner with their family on a lot with a good view (Israeli definition of "hiding behind civilians and interfering with settlement of Israelis") or they may get embarrassed

It's already too late for a strike against Syria. They expected it weeks ago. What is Obama going to do now, email the date, time and locations of the attack? Maybe he should bomb Japan again too to get back at them for Pearl Harbor. If your child needs discipline do you wait for a month or two after the offense?

My wife and I just watched some graphic videos of the victims of nerve gas in Syria on the news. They showed Obama after the videos. She says to me in her bad English "Why America have to go everywhere? Why don't they stay home? Not their country."

I had to laugh at the simplicity of her statement, yet had I had no argument against her point.
