You'd be lucky to get a garden shed for the price where I live.

Believe me, I was surprised. Coming from a big city in Canada, 140k for a good home was unheard of to me.

That's a steal compared to Massachusetts Penny. In our area a half decent 4bed/2bath house would go for 350K and up, and that's low end. If you throw in a modern kitchen, some land and a garage you're easily over 400K.

Madness. We have a modern kitchen, large fenced in backyard, and a two car garage.

I was super surprised when we were house hunting. The prices here are ridiculously low compared to what I'm used to.

It is madness. My wife was floored when she saw the prices of homes here. Where she's from in Windsor it is more compatible to what you paid for your home. We are looking to move within the next 5 years into our "forever home" (cause I aint moving again, lol). We would like to get a little more land and privacy and a 2 car garage. We will probably pay around 400K to 450K for what we want.

Yeah, we'd probably be looking at 400-500k if we'd chosen to live in Ottawa rather than here, too.

Moving is a pain in the butt and I hope to never do it again. I'd be perfectly happy in my house forever, just doing renovations on the parts that I'm not totally in love with. My parents moved me around a lot as a child, for really ridiculous reasons (and all in the same city, but just far enough away to have to change schools a lot) ... and I said after I made the big move here, I'd NEVER move again. laughing.gif

Unless of course my husband tells me we can move back to Canada... I'd be all over that. dancin5hr.gif

Dear lord you could live in a border line Mansion for that here

Move to FLA to one of the retirement places for half that. They issue you checked pants and white shoes when you buy

There is not much worse than moving.

I enjoy doing work around the house, but my body is starting to reject physical labor by making me hurt for days afterwards, lol. So we will find a house that does not need all that much in the way of repairs or renovations and call that our home for good. We might decide to buy a home down south and do the snowbird thing, but that's at least 15 years away. My wife would be all over the Canada move too, and I wouldn't mind it either.

The only problem with moving to places with lower home values is that the incomes are usually lower too. It's all reflective of what the local market will bear.

The checkered pants are right up my alley. laughing.gif
