The last thing holding up my filipina's immigrant visa is her need of Thai police clearance due to her two years of working in Thailand a few years ago.

There is a Thai consulate in Cebu which we will contact tomorrow but I'm wondering if anyone else who's not a resident of Thailand has gone through this experience?

If so, what documents / information did you need to get the clearance?

On the travel.state.gov site I found this:

Police Records

Available. Police certificates are obtainable from:

Section 3, Sub-Division 2. General Staff Division
Special Branch
Royal Thai Police Department
Rama I Road
Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330

Residents of Thailand requesting a Thai police certificate will need to present two recent photographs (2 inch x 2 inch), the original and a copy of his/her passport, identification card, household registration, name change certificate (if any), marriage and divorce certificate (if any). Thai males aged 17-45 must also present military record or proof of exemption from military service.

Non-residents should send their requests to the Royal Thai Police Department at the above address with the required documents and a fingerprint taken by a police authority at their place of residence.

Normal processing time is two to three weeks. There is no processing fee.

So, one's fingerprints are needed for sure; did you just visit the local police station to have them made or what?

Did you mail in your passport to the Thai police?

We are going to ask the Thai consulate if my wife's NBI clearance, which shows her thumb print, will suffice.

Basically, we are just wondering if anyone else was able to obtain a Thai police clearance sooner than the 2-3 weeks mention on the government website.

Thanks much!

the security / police certificate process is very different in every country it seems. it's painful for sure. if you can locate someone you know in Thailand to do the leg work for you, the requirements seem to get less if someone on that side is interpreting and doing the upfront work for you.

Thanks for your excellent suggestion JA Martinez!

We wrote a letter authorizing a former workmate of my wife to act in her behalf. She took this to the Royal Thai Police.

For a small "fee" of 600 baht, the process of getting a Thai police clearance was expedited from 3 weeks up to just 5 days.

The police even accepted a copy of the NBI clearance instead of demanding their preference of fingerprints of all ten fingers.

My wife's contact person will pick up the clearance this week and FedEx it to us.

We should have the visa next week.

Thanks again for your help.

kingdomsower,

It would be very much appreciated - and would also make your posts much more clear and easy to read - if you would delete any unnecessary text and tags that get copied accidentally when you post your comments. Just read over your content before you hit the post button and edit out those unnecessary 'extras'. Thanks! smile.png
