you will have to check with blue cross bud

I believe it would need to be a blood relative, either way.. once you get married, you have a qualifying life event which will make her available to add to your insurance policy

You would need to ask your insurance company what they need to add her. They most likely will want you to marry first.

In our case Blue Cross couldn't add me because i didn't had 6 months living in the US... ask them first....

I do not know if this generally applies to Blue Cross Blue Shield, but BCBS Oklahoma had this policy that you can only add someone on the first day of the month following the wedding (our wedding was on Feb 2, so I joined my husband's insurance on March 1). They did ask for me SSN, so make sure you get one for your spouse asap. We also had some trouble because they wouldn't insure me without a physical examination that must have taken place here in the U.S. (the medical for the K1 back in Germany did not count), so we had to spend $50 extra on another medical.

Until your spouse can be covered under your insurance, why don't you go with a short-term insurance - that's what I did, and they did not ask for an SSN there either.

Until your spouse can be covered under your insurance, why don't you go with a short-term insurance - that's what I did, and they did not ask for an SSN there either.

I used HCC Short Term Insurance, but there are a lot more out there.
