To be fair as many Christians that drip vitriol there are just as many atheists that are just as rabid anti christian.

Oh, whenever anyone feels passionate about something, there are the rabid vocal minority who kind of give everyone else a bad name. But unless I'm speaking to/with one of them, I don't treat them as if those people are representative of an entire group.

I personally have never seen an atheist spew some cruel garbage at a religious person/organization, but I have no doubt that it happens.

Atheists don't come to my door and tell me how to live my life. Yet.

One of God's great two commandments was love each other as you love yourself.

But oddly enough so many Christians spends so much energy hating anyone who does not think like them.

Let me pick at that if I may.

When you go out in the community and find the most "unlovable", the least desired those who have the least and need the most, it is there you are more likely to find

Christians and Christian ministries helping.

You don't find Atheist soup kitchens or Atheists visiting people on Death row.

You don't find Atheist Orphanages or Atheist homes for unwed mothers.

You find these places are mostly started and manned by... people of Faith and most often that is a Christian faith.

But Except for the last few decades it was assumed Christians were made for combat, the Church haas changed radically and a big part of that has been the pacifism which has crept in..... until Christians now believe their doctrine begins and ends at the sermon on the mount (which you so handily quoted.)

Whether it was the Byzantine empire, across Europe or on into the Americas, the Church expands under the sword, when it acts as effeminate, it retreats.

I don't assume the Hippy jesus roll, one of the last pieces of advice he gave to his disciples was to -Sell something and buy a sword.

I don't think it will change it at all. Rather than a man and a woman getting married and having kids or adopting them, two people of the same sex will, either through adoption or through a surrogate mother/father. The family structure doesn't change.

It isn't like being gay and living together with a same sex partner is a recent advance -- people (and even monogamous animals like penguins) have been doing it throughout history, in various levels of secrecy. The only way society will change is that it become more open to non-bible-approved ideas.

See you defeat your argument from the outset by saying "two people".

Who are you to say a family is only two adults and how could you be so silly to think others will agree?

You make that claim because you define atheism by your own mythological beliefs whereas most atheists don't define themselves by the mythological beliefs of others.

There are no 'atheist' organisations Danno, it's a label for people who lack a belief in deities, atheists can be found everywhere, even in religious organisations. Atheists are not some weird segment of society that hangs out in groups with an agenda to recruit more atheists. It's not a movement of any kind, it simply describes those who lack 'faith' for want of a better word.

There are plenty of non denominational charities out there though. Just sayin.

Ps. Think we could all do better with a bit of respect between our various factions here (religious vs not). That isn't to say we can't have the discussions on the moral implications of things like gay marriage, abortion, and the other hot topics de jour. but we can discuss them with respect and without resorting to poop-flinging.
