Meh. Life is entertaining. Even when I was getting shot at, I thought, "This would probably make a good movie someday." When life loses its thrill, time to pack it in. Then you if you get an answer, you will know which religion was right. If you don't get answer, then who cares, right?

byyNN0e.jpg

the thrill in life is sourced from the uncertainty of life.

odd that so many people still feel the need to pick one particular fairy tale from the many possible fairy tales out there to tout lifelong as their one, foundational, certainty.

Serious. God tells me He doesn't like serious people. The life of a Supreme Being gets boring after a few billion years. He just told me He hates Justin Bierber, whoever that is.

In the Judeo-Christian tradition, even with all those angels constantly adoring Him, God was bored, so He created man. Man was bored so God created woman. Some angel was jealous because God gave humans genitals and God liked creatures with genitals better that angels who don't have genitals, and after a big battle, God turned His favorite angel into a snake. The snake told the woman how to become as smart as God was. The woman shared this knowledge with the man. God got pissed., and stopped the free housing and made man work for a living, and gave woman PMS. Now that is entertainment!

i don't think i've ever given much thought to angel or snake genitalia. interesting. that's why i hang out in p&r. we ask the questions that need asking.

Thats your perspective. You are looking at the end of a building and have no idea how deep it is, and so it is in matters you raised.

I wish I had a great answer, as there are as many questions in the area of Faith as there are in science yet we don't discount what we already know.

-I would wonder why you would assume God would create a heaven in the here and now...... when this is not heaven, if you ask why does God allow a child to be born cripple, you assume in Gods sight the child is crippled? If God were to make all legs completely perfect in your view... you would no doubt next ask why does that child have buck-teeth or why did the other child fall through the ice while skating.

Your demand for a perfect world would never stop and ironically, at no point along the way would it cause you to believe in the God creating all this earthly perfection.

My friend if we had all the answers, we would not need faith.

You certainly have a great measure of faith in your every day life, I mean we all speed down the road with only a few feet separating us and oncoming traffic.

You seem to have no problem putting faith in all those drivers, yet when it comes to God you just can't manage.

I think there is another reason most people reject God.

Pride, they can't humble them self before God.

I don't demand a perfect world, I asked you to explain how a perfect Creator [a claim from the Good Book] can create imperfection. The 'imperfection' is not in my mind, as one lame response indicated could be the case. The imperfection is there for all to see, as well as the claim the Creator of said imperfection is perfect. These two things can't both be true. This is one very simple example of where claims made in the Bible fall short of observable reality, there are many many more.

Not being able to say with exact certainty the origins of all life on this planet does not make necessary a need to have faith in a Creator/God. One thing science is taking away from your chosen religion, that Earth is the center of his grand and glorious creation. That there is some form of life elsewhere, or was at one time, is far more scientifically likely than not. Google Mars and Curiosity rover.

It is neither my perspective, nor pride that leads me to ask the question, it is reality vs the mythical fairy tales found in the Bible.

Atheism implies being against God, rejecting God implies there is something to reject. Non-theism is merely recognizing that no religion has managed to generate anything to compel one to accept or reject the Creator or.God each given religion claims exists. Rejection of religion is not really the same thing as the term Atheist implies, although in your hubris at believing you have chosen the one true and correct religion and one true and correct Creator/God, you see it that way Danno.

I love the 'my deity can kick your deity's sacred fanny' banter.

It reminds me of a somewhat stupid joke I heard my father tell when I was a kid.

A generally nervous man was skydiving for the first time with a group of his friends, who ensured him they'd done it before, and he'd be fine. The instructor was an Indian man.

Due to the nervous nature of this fellow, he asked his instructor, "so all I have to do is pull the cord? What if the parachute doesn't open?"

The instructor told him to pull the backup cord.

"If that doesn't open?"

"Be pulling the second backup cord."

"And what if the second backup cord doesn't work?"

The instructor shrugged and said, "You should be praying to Vishnu!"

The man jumped. As he started to see his friends' parachutes open, he pulled the cord. Surely enough, it didn't open. Second cord, same problem. Third and final backup parachute... didn't open. With nothing to lose, he pushed his hands together and said, "Vishnu, Vishnu, Vishnu... Help me help me help me."

Miraculously, a giant hand swooped from the sky and picked the man up, slowly lowering him to the ground. The man hopped off, and, without thinking, blurted out "Oh, thank Jesus."

SWAT!

The giant hand swatted him like a fly.

What would Xenu do?

Its not exactly fair to ask how many people were educated by religious organizations when they ran/run the monopoly on the market. Scientific theories aren't even allowed in some public schools at this point. How could people possibly not be influenced by religion? Religious institutions usually adopt scientific findings after some time but are always hesitant to do so. The catholic church threatened Galileo with death for suggestion Jupiter had moons revolving around it. Eventually they accepted the findings after fitting it in neatly without disturbing church dogma. Catholic schools now teach the earth rotates around the sun and that Jupiter has moons rotating around it. BUT, religion makes everything scientific slower. Much slower.

Still no list but you did offer a bit of misinformation info on Galileo so I guess that is worth something.

Galilleo's championing of heliocentrism was controversial within his lifetime, when most subscribed to either geocentrism or the Tychonic system.[9]He met with opposition from astronomers, who doubted heliocentrism due to the absence of an observed stellar parallax.[9] The matter was investigated by the Roman Inquisition in 1615, and they concluded that it could be supported as only a possibility, not an established fact.[9][10] Galileo later defended his views in Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems, which appeared to attack Pope Urban VIII and thus alienated him and theJesuits, who had both supported Galileo up until this point.[9] He was tried by the Inquisition, found "vehemently suspect of heresy", forced to recant, and spent the rest of his life under house arrest.[11][12] It was while Galileo was under house arrest that he wrote one of his finest works, Two New Sciences, in which he summarised the work he had done some forty years earlier, on the two sciences now called kinematics and strength of materials.[13][14]

It very much illustrates the idea I wanted to convey.... +10!!!!!!

The finding of moons orbiting Jupiter is what he used to support the copernican model of the earth revolving around the sun. The proof was that other objects were seen orbiting Jupiter, therefore (along with tons of other scientific evidence) not everything orbited the earth. How was this heresy danno? How?

As for your list, I already explained that. You take your religion out of schools and I can start making lists going forward. Want religion in schools, go to private schools. Like Gary, I'm pro-choice. Your list proves nothing and I'm not wasting time on it. I went to catholic schools so take me off the list.

Here's a full read on the Galileo affair

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_affair

I particularly enjoy this part

(Geocentrism agreed with a literal interpretation of Scripture in several places, such as 1 Chronicles 16:30, Psalm 93:1, Psalm 96:10, Psalm 104:5, Ecclesiastes 1:5 (in contrast withJob 26:7). Heliocentrism, the theory that the Earth was a planet, which along with all the others revolved around the Sun, contradicted both geocentrism and the prevailing theological support of the theory.)

Like your republican brethren, you're good at misunderstanding what you read (it supported me btw) and peddling it to others.

I like this, your buds at work:

"Dr. Boscaglia had talked to Madame [Christina] for a while, and though he conceded all the things you have discovered in the sky, he said that the motion of the earth was incredible and could not be, particularly since Holy Scripture obviously was contrary to such motion."[12]

NOPE, DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAW, NOT IN THE BIBLE. I DON'T EVEN NEED TO LOOK AT WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT TO KNOW YOU'RE WRONG!

Yes yes, we know.

Some folks think religion should be taught in public schools instead of scientific discovery. Then they say, I have to respect their belief. I will the minute their belief goes into their church and stays.
