That would be a question you had better get about answering, you have absolute faith in science, each and every time it evolves (hope you are light footed).

Your confidence in the virtue of men of science is admirable, did you vote for hope and change as well?

Speaking of science and evolution and honesty..... one can't help but recall this moment in science.

-------------------------------------

The Piltdown Man was a hoax in which bone fragments were presented as thefossilised remains of a previously unknown early human. These fragments consisted of parts of a skull and jawbone, said to have been collected in 1912 from a gravel pit at Piltdown, East Sussex, England. The Latin name Eoanthropus dawsoni ("Dawson's dawn-man", after the collector Charles Dawson) was given to the specimen. The significance of the specimen remained the subject of controversy until it was exposed in 1953 as a forgery, consisting of the lower jawbone of an orangutan deliberately combined with the skull of a fully developedmodern human.

The Piltdown hoax is perhaps the most famous paleoanthropological hoax ever to have been perpetrated. It is prominent for two reasons: the attention paid to the issue of human evolution, and the length of time (more than 40 years) that elapsed from its discovery to its full exposure as a forgery.

I don't have 'faith' in science Danno. Science isn't a belief system. Science is a process of examination of the physical world, that's not something you an believe in or not believe in. Science is not an alternative to religion and I have never suggested that it might be. Moreover, why would you think that all scientists are equal? Better still, why you think I might think that? It's really quite simple Danno, not at all complicated. I do not believe in the existence of deities. That's all there is. No agenda, no alternate belief system instead, just that, an absence of belief in gods.

I do find science very interesting and benefit greatly from advances that are a product of scientific examination. Isn't that fantastic? I think it is.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I never thought about it

So I am not a "practicing" athiest then, right? Kind of like a Catholic chick that goes to a private OMG-expensive Catholic University and wants the government to force the Catholic Church to pay for her birth control so she does not have to curtail her whoring around.

Like that, right?

Before I click on the next page I had to comment on this one.

Women can be on birth control for reasons other than birth control.

Regulation (some ladies have auntie flo come visit at completely and utterly random times - can make for some embarrassing scenes)

Pain etc management (some ladies also get it really really bad - pain galore, some ladies get the nausea, really heavy flow which can make anemia a bit of a problem)

Acne etc. yep the pill can be used for that one too.

So please, stop with the thought that only "ladies with loose morals" are on the pill.

BS. I am Theist confused. If one can be gender confused, then by GOD I can be theist confused and I do not need you to assign me into one of your neat little holes. Stop judging people! What consenting adults choose is our own business! (rainbow flag here) You are obviously not pro-choice. Try to be open minded and accepting.

The title of this thread shows you who is being judged here.

My friend you seemed to believe that science and religion are always and naturally at odds which seems rather strange considering that for most of history nearly all scientist were educated and funded by the church. (even in this country until perhaps the last century)

I don't know that you could name many great thinker or leaders in science who don't owe at least in part their education and their ability to do research to the religious institutions.

Even on those oft repeated occasions where these scientist had conflict with a religious organization, you can't find many who believed as you do.

Anyway, I will welcome a list of names.

The reason they are at odds Danno, is because religion typically assumes everything is explained in their holy texts. When Science arbitrarily finds something to be in either direct or dogmatic conflict with the religious teachings, said religion then attempts to destroy the offending scientist. The evidence of the finding is rarely considered. Science would prefer to be left alone and religion would prefer to stay in control.

I also find it very interesting that every time the existence of gods - any of them - is the subject of any exchange, invariably one side will introduce religion in the mix, whereas the more one reads, the more it becomes evident that religion and the gods they worship are quite often anathema.

I appreciate you trying to educate the ignorant. Most of us here have given up trying.

I asked earlier and I still wait for the list of scientists prior to say 1900 that were not educated in institutions founded or run by religious organizations.

When one imagines how pitiful our understanding of the sciences would be at this time were we left to atheists ..... we can only shutter.

I can't say this is true about all religions, but there are many religious people who slow down progress by maintaining that everything that needs to be known about the world is in a really old book, and that instead of trying to find a new answer, we should use the answer in said old book.

I guess if you keep saying it, that will make it so.

another thing i've noticed about theists is how completely hilarious they can be without even trying.

Its not exactly fair to ask how many people were educated by religious organizations when they ran/run the monopoly on the market. Scientific theories aren't even allowed in some public schools at this point. How could people possibly not be influenced by religion? Religious institutions usually adopt scientific findings after some time but are always hesitant to do so. The catholic church threatened Galileo with death for suggestion Jupiter had moons revolving around it. Eventually they accepted the findings after fitting it in neatly without disturbing church dogma. Catholic schools now teach the earth rotates around the sun and that Jupiter has moons rotating around it. BUT, religion makes everything scientific slower. Much slower.

Meh. Life is entertaining. Even when I was getting shot at, I thought, "This would probably make a good movie someday." When life loses its thrill, time to pack it in. Then you if you get an answer, you will know which religion was right. If you don't get answer, then who cares, right?
