Everyone eventually understood that people were fat because good food was expensive and the poor had to eat potato chips for meals, because a bag of chips can get a growing kid 1000 calories for less than a dollar.

Poor people aren't fat because they eat too much delicious nutritious food. They are fat because they eat garbage, because the worst food is the cheapest.

Nutrition helps with brain development, but public school free lunches aren't very nutrition. This is the point I was attempting to drive Danno to but he failed to take the cue.

Well they did try to make them more nutritious but bowed to big agro, as I said. I would support repealing that pizza is a vegetable nonsense and getting back to the nutritional standard we had for... a year? I forget how long it was. I remember they said that potatoes didn't count as a vegetable (no french fries for your veggie side etc) and other good things. Then they went back...eww

Those lunches are still more nutritious than what some kids can get. But yes, the more nutritious, the better. Also with balanced meals kids would get healthy eating habits and not get fat and get too many medical bills. Bonus.

Think about that, if they plan they could eat for a month.

God forbid someone would have a few kids and be expected to pay for a bag of apples.

However much you'd wish this to be the case, 49% of low income wage earners are not illegals. But you are right, that's not the point. The point is that the tremendous income growth in this nation has by-passed the vast majority of the workforce over the last several decades. Most every bit of the income growth has gone to the top 10%. Among the 90% that was left holding the bag are mostly Americans - by large margins.

We should apply the same logic to food stamps. Give them to everyone..If healthcare is a right surely eating is..

Amazing how all these kids from poor neighborhoods and families can rise up and over come on the sports field , yet hunger is keeping them from getting an education.
