Im not sure. I read about the $1000 fee back in September when I was just starting the process. I was even more confused then than I am now. I was sitting in my living room in Florida, filling out the I-130, the day before flying to England, so I brought the form to England and mailed it to (I think) USCIS in Arizona. Why I did that is anyones guess. I should have just applied at the embassy in London. We did consider applying for a K3 so maybe it was during those thought processes that I read about the $1000.

I really hope USCIS keeps on working hard to get a lot more September filers transferred as quickly as possible. The waiting is awful

Yeah, I think the K1 and K3 applicants pay that fee after they arrive in the US, whereas we pay for everything (except removal of conditions if applicable, and later citizenship) before they even get here. And yeah, tough luck, but at least you've got movement now!

Let me help you further avoid the corn cob

The $1000 fee form relates to those already in the US who are applying for a CR1/IR1, as they have to file I-130 and I-485 to adjust status from whatever visa they have to a GC. So if you're in the US on a work/student/K3/K1 visa and you get married, you'd be stuck with that huge fee. As for those filing from outside the US, it's $420 (I-130) + $88 (AOS) + $230 (IV) + whatever the medical costs.. and then there's the whole removal of conditions thing etc etc but that can apply for both groups. I hope that helps! I've been reading up on this whole process far too much (which is why I'm thoroughly unprepared for my exam tomorrow)

Ok, whew! I thought so! And since I've been relentlessly pressing F5 on the USCIS site and checking here for updates ... I am leaving late from the office after I finish my document and send it off for publication. Woe.

As far as I've been lead to believe, local offices can process the I-130s and will sometimes get them to clear out the backlog. I know salt lake city had a few last year. This is just what I've been told though.

I got transferred today Feb 26. My PD is Sept 11. Hope this process goes smooth and fast. I pray for all those split from their loved ones because of this long queue to meet their other half at the earliest. I am happy to be part of this lovely VJ family

I think we're going to see more transfers next monday and tuesday, so let's pray that our cases won't be send to NEBRASKA,that's can be a nightmare for all our september's filers

I think USCIS is going to rip through September by the end of next week at this rate... they are all over the place tonight! Has anyone else found out which service center they were transferred to?
