I agree, except about the cost, we looked at the same type of paperwork here in Australia for me and it was over 3k, at least the US one isn't as bad as that. And Australia needs a lot more proof of relationship from what I've seen.

IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Event Date

Service Center : National Benefits Center

Consulate : Sydney, Australia

Marriage (if applicable): 2013-08-25

Oh I seeeee smile.png Makes sense.

I dunno... God bless America and all that jazz, but I'm sure they could have made this whole process a whole lot easier. When my parents moved to the US in 1961, they were charged $15 to have their fingerprints taken, they signed a form to say they were decent people, and they crossed the border. Somewhere between 'paying $15' and 'DS-2032 I-130 I-666 BS-409 AOS NVC USCIS #######', I'm sure someone could have invented a slightly easier system. One that doesn't cause people such stress and angst. One that doesnt separate families. One that doesn't cost so much...

Haha I like the way you worded that. :)

And NO kidding, but then again, things have dramatically changed since then and there's a crapload more issues to worry about now than there were in the 60's. Sometimes I wish times were more simple like they were back then, but then again, LDR were A LOT more difficult to maintain before the internet and calling cards. lol

Yeah thats very true. As I said yesterday, I'm one of the lucky ones because I dont have to face a separation during this process, but unfortunately, way too many people do. Obviously when I become US president, I plan on changing the system. I'll just charge $20 for the whole thing and it'll be over in around 2 weeks :)

Seriously though, on the subject of fees... I paid $420 for the I-130, and I'm now looking at the fees going forward. I'm sure there was a fee of around $1000 I was going to have to pay at this stage, but I cant find any reference to it at all. Any ideas? I can see a fee of $88 for the affidavit of support, but did I dream/nightmare the $1000 or am I just missing it?

When you say 'how the petition went', what does that mean exactly? Sorry, I dont mean to sound stupid :) Do you mean if it was approved or not?

I'm not sure I'll be able to contain the excitement until I receive the paper notice, so I'll probably have to call them. I'm in the UK now and leave for Florida on March 11th, so I'm hoping the NOA2 will be delivered to me when I get back (the post office there is holding my mail until March 12th) but I'm probably a little too excited to wait that long dancin5hr.gif

No, my priority date is September 20. The NOA1 is dated September 24, but priority date is September 20...so it looks like they're working even faster than we hoped goofy.gif

My fault for crappy spelling, but I see k.dlg cleared that up!

Yeah I agree, I was just being lighthearted about the fees, although I do suspect they've made them high enough so that some people literally cant afford to pay them. For much of the developing world, $1000 or whatever it is, is a whole lot of money to pay for someone to look at some paperwork, and I think they've set the fees just high enough to dissuade some people from applying. Just a hunch I have, although I hope I'm wrong.

We pay I-130: $420, AOS: $88, IV: $230, Medical Exam: £235 or ~ $392, plus however much it costs for the courier service to deliver the visa + passport (and the cost of the police certification and other required documentation). So yes, well over $1000 total.

Hmmm. Im sure there was one step that was around $1000 on its own. IIRC, it was a fee for 'something' that came to just under $1000, then you had to add another small fee for 'something else', maybe biometric data, that took it to just over $1000. I dont mind paying it, obviously, its a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things, but I just dont remember what it was for or where I read it. Maybe it was part of one of the Nebraska-related nightmares Ive been having. Maybe the one where I was being beaten to death with an oversized corn cob by someone called Betsy-Sue because I used blue ink instead of black.

Lol, well its now 1.25am here and I doubt I will get much sleep. Now that I know Ive been transferred, I will probably spend the night reading up on the next steps, because I find the whole thing extremely confusing. But at least Betsy Sue and her giant corn cob wont come and visit me if I stay awake :)
