AOS Approved While Abroad, "Paroled" Stamp Given at POE

Hi Folks,

My husband came back from abroad this week, and since his AOS was approved while he was away, the officer took him to a secondary inspection room, gave him a stamp that said "Paroled," and sent him on his way.

The officer didn't say anything about further instructions, so do we have to do anything else now?

I've read that if you don't travel somewhere within a year, then you must go and show your green card to some office to make sure you're entered correctly in the system. Is this correct? I know he should be here on his LPR status, not on a Paroled status, but I'm not sure where to go from here.

Regardless of the stamp in his passport, he *IS* an LPR, so the worst that could happen is some confusion at a border checkpoint requiring some explanation.

Spouse-based AOS from out-of-status H-1B, May - Aug 2012

Removal of conditions, Aug - Nov 2014

If he had come before he was approved for GC then he would get a paroled stamp, and his status would change when he got the GC (though the stamp in his passport would be "paroled") This is similar; it's nothing to worry about. He couldn't be given an "ARC" stamp at the border if he didn't show his GC; that would be improper.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will call the CBP Deferred Inspection office in my area, and a trip to Canada wouldn't be so bad! smile.png
