NY airport transfer

My fiance will be flying into JFK from London in hopes of getting his EAD. Problem is, there aren't any flights at the right time for him to get form JFK to Indy. Can someone please tell us how long it usually takes to get through immigration at JFK?

And how long does it take to get from JFK to LGA, cuz there are plenty of flights from there to Indy. He would be going between airports at around 6:30 or 7 in the evening I would guess (his flight from London arrives in at 4:10.)

Any suggestions would be great!

Have you checked out both airport websites, I am sure they will have connections between the two.

Yep, it says you can get a cab (30 mins) or a bus (45 minutes), but i'd like to hear from someone who's actually done this, and esp. how long to leave to go through immigration at JFK.

There's a shuttle bus that goes between LGA, Newark and JFK -- I would allow for A LOT of time to do this because he's going to have a lot of luggage and traffic. I did that transfer in about 90 minutes (from collecting my luggage to arriving at the next airport), and it was pretty easy but I did in the middle of the day and only carrying one case.

I would advise leaving hours between the flights. You never know when planes are going to be late, NYC traffic out of control or immigration lines long.

I have transferred often between JFK, LGA and EWR. Allow at least 3 hours minimum. My fiance just chimed in saying how much he hated it. It takes a long time and you are doing it at rush hour too.

You might be better off just waiting for the next indy flight from JFK then dealing with the transfer with baggage during rush hour.

If this is the 1st POE with a new visa, plus having to wait in the immigration line, you're looking at a possible 2 hour wait just to get through immigration. Add another 2-3 hours to get over to LGA and you're at 5 hours. When is the next flight to indy?

I looked at doing the same but decided against it in the end. The EAD only lasts for 90 days and you can't even use it until you have your SSN. Then after the 90 days is up you have to give up your job until you get your proper EAD after you apply for AOS.

I arrived on May 30, married on june 30, sent off paperwork beginning of July and was working legitimately by September 30 with EAD in hand.
