Hi!

Newbie here! I just wanted to make sure I read this correctly. So, the 2nd notice of NOA can take up to 5 months? Is that a common time frame for most people? Should my fiance and I plan on this whole process taking about a year?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Hannah,

Unfortunately yes :( Join some threats in VJ, you will get some more information.. Some of them are lucky they get their NOA2 in 2-3 months.. Although after there sometimes there's still waiting time until you received your visa in hand (apprx. 2 more months from NOA2)

It's really frustrating :'( need extra patience..*sigh*

The whole process cannot really be estimated, unfortunately, but they say the average wait time for NOA2 is 5 months. Some take less time, some take more. NOA2 is only half the battle, though. There is a lot that needs to happen between NOA2 and receiving the visa, and unfortunately that just means more waiting!!

It also depends on which service center you are sent to. California has been quite fast recently, while the others have kind of been on the slower side.

I'd say if you file now, in a year, you'll be done, but don't make any plans as you never know what could happen with the whole process!

Good luck!!!

put together a quality petition with detailed supporting documents to eliminate any possible rfe and delays. the time for NOA 2 is about 5 months, expect up to 12, jump for joy if less than 4, petition approval times are fluid and change often for all service centers. read all the threads you can so you understand all the miscellaneous bull that you will get in terms of communications or the lack thereof. know what to do at 5 months if you do not have an answer. next trip to the nvc can take ten days to three months depending on whether or not it gets delayed as many have. nvc is fast for K-1's assigning your case and forwarding it to the embassy (I am sure someone will chime in if I got that process wrong, but it is fast either way). read all the guides on the next steps you will need afterwards including medicals, police certs, affidavits of support and the rest of all that fun stuff. read all the embassy reviews for your consulate

good luck, set yourself up for success with patience from the get go... tens of millions of documents go through those pipes

*** Thread moved from K-1 Process forum to the USCIS Service Centers forum -- topic involves rates of processing. ***

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

For us, it took 6 months and 3 weeks to get our NOA2, no RFE...9 months per total from the moment we send the petition to TX lockbox, til I had the visa in my hands. Could be less than 5 months, could be longer!

Hi Hannah,

We are fellow US/Ireland filers as well. Our service centre was California and our NOA took 65 days from our NOA1.

If your peition is pretty clean cut and there's no issues and RFE's the process MIGHT be quicker. Something I learned while waiting for our approval was that the petitions don't really seem to be processed in order so you have to be very patient. Hope for the best (less than five months) but prepare for the worst case scenario (5 months)

What I've read on VJ, petitioners have various amount waiting time for I-129F approval. Spend more time to look up another users timeline to give you some insight especially from the country where the beneficiary comes from. For my own, I give a year for processing until visa on hand. Good luck!

I don't believe there is much of a connection between processing times and NOA2. Ours was absolutely straightforward, no prior marriages, no kids, same age, no criminal records etc., and we still waited 6 months for our NOA2. It all depends on how slow/fast the service center you are at is working, and maybe on luck to some extent.
