@mayheckman I was wondering how long the South African Police clearance took, and whether or not it was just a standard police clearance, or did you have to get it legalised?

I have tried contacting the consulate for an answer, to no avail.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

We sent off for his police clearance and sent it via courier. They received it on the 6th and signed for it. I didn't hear back until this past week when I called them to check on the status. They claimed they did not receive proof of payment, which was attached to his fingerprints and in original form. So, John sent additional payment, and I faxed a copy of the receipt as well as his photo ID to SAPS. We also had paid for courier service back, and we had his PCC within 1 day. Had they let us know they did not have the receipt, it would have been a week max.

John now has both the Ireland and SA police clearance certificates, and his birth certificate is being couriered to him tomorrow. We are emailing in Packet 3 tomorrow and setting up his medical.

Does anybody have any idea if this US Government shutdown is going to hurt all of us trying to wrap up the visa process?

Best I know is right now it will slow thngs down and if it keeps going will shut them down. Part of the funding is not from the bills they are fighting over signing right now. They have 2 year funds, no year Funds and the fees paid to keep them going for a little while, but slower because they will cut hours to try to keep going longer. Supposedly.

Here is what came in my Packet 3

DS 156

DS 230 part 1 filled out only

DS 2001 (notification of applicant readiness)

DSL 1083 (what countries you do not get police clearances from)

Supplement to form DS 156

In the email we were told to email back DS 230 when ready for the interview. I would assume since they also sent DS 2001 that needs to go with the email as well.

Dear Ms. Heckman,

Please find packet 3 attached. When your fiancée has completed these forms kindly email back to our office the DS-230 part 1 so that we may schedule an interview date for him.

Kind regards,

Consular Section Johannesburg

Thanks for the pkt 3 list, Mayheckman. I noticed i-134 isn't included. Is it not in pkt 3? I'm trying to wrap my mind around this, so the fiance and I can get going with our next steps. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yes I believe you have to have it. Not sure why they didn't include it but John has it and all supporting documents as well as the i864. Rather have all bases covered.

Will you let us know when you receive your packet 3? I am interested to know if you'll be asked to fill out the new forms or the old since the process is changing a bit. I hope they send it soon!

We received packet 3 and sent it back today. But everything I've read you will need one or the other so I prepared all documents for his interview.
