On the Johannesburg Consulate info it lists a form, DS-2001 that is the Applicants Readiness. We thought packet 3 could be emailed back to the conuslate, is that true including this form? Can only find a version from 2002 that says it needs to be signed and mailed back. Cant find anything else on any of the sites for this form.

I'm pretty sure form DS-2001 isn't used anymore.

I did a quick search and found this out about the DS-2001

Here is what came in my Packet 3

DS 156

DS 230 part 1 filled out only

DS 2001 (notification of applicant readiness)

DSL 1083 (what countries you do not get police clearances from)

Supplement to form DS 156

In the email we were told to email back DS 230 when ready for the interview. I would assume since they also sent DS 2001 that needs to go with the email as well.

Dear Ms. Heckman,

Please find packet 3 attached. When your fiancée has completed these forms kindly email back to our office the DS-230 part 1 so that we may schedule an interview date for him.

Kind regards,

Consular Section Johannesburg

I am surprised there are no instructions on the police clearance or medical, But oh well we know how to do that. Thank you so much for posting this, it is a HUGE help to relieve my brain that we are ready. GOOD LUCK!!!!

FYI on the medical. Going through the Dr in Cape Town the prices have gone WAY UP!

Per Dr. Brauer

The price quote of R1000 was for the medical and is already outdated by a few years now.

The uncomplicated medical cost for an adult is R1205.90 and the additional cost of vaccinations can range from R580 – R1000.

The courier cost is R305.

Total estimated maximum cost is R2500 approximately.

Wow! Thanks for the heads up on the new fees. That is quite a lot! Considering you can go visit the doctor for about a 1/4 of that fee!

Also thanks for downloading those forms.

Speaking of costs. And I know this is really off topic- But have you looked at flights? They are cost more oneway then round trip.

Are you guys going to buy a round trip and then not use the other leg?

I have been watching flights. I was also informed by my co-worker to make sure to always clear the browsing history/cookies each and every time because if not the prices go up. So far, end of October I can get a 1 way to Minnesota from Cape Town for $784.00 one way. I did not look round trip. I have been looking via Cheap Tickets. and would LOVE insight into any other better places to search, as I have tried Kayak, Cheap O Air, Priceline, and Hot Wire with no luck.

We will have to fly him to Johannesburg as well, it's 13 hours one way for him by car :(

Also, does anybody know if the K-1 Visa application fee is actually $240 or $350, as they have both on the website, and do we pay this prior to his appointment, or when he gets there?

The flights have really gone up since I have first been going to South Africa.

www.itncorp.com

They were able to get me a great deal when all the usual website were very expensive.

Also there is a website called onetravel.com they sometimes have really good prices too.

I've also noticed that South Africa Airways runs specials now and then. www.flysaa.com

Do you have any miles you could use? If you are close to a oneway ticket you could buy extra miles.

Also I have bought separate tickets before. You could see how much it would be if you bought a one way to Jozie.

Then you get one to the USA. (JFK or IAD) Then you get another oneway to your destination. (Just make sure you leave plenty of time if you do that between flights)

Sorry not sure about the K-1 visa. Not doing that visa. Maybe post that question under the K-1 forum?

I have found good ticket prices on www.travelstart.co.za, I will need to check out the other ones listed. Also for the visa fee it is paid the day of the interview, either credit card or US cash. If the money is $100 bills cant be older than 2003 and no marks on it. The fee is $240. Hope this helps.
