Hello Everyone

My name's Michael, and I'm happily in a relationship with a lovely girl from the United Kingdom. We've been dating for seven long years.

Hopefully starting next week, I will begin the process of starting the K-1 visa application. I hope everything goes well. It's going to be extremely stressful, as she will not be able to visit me in the US during the entire time we're working on the process. Why you may ask? Well mainly because I'm an idiot.

My idea for a romantic proposal was for her to visit me for 6 months (and during that time I would have proposed). She'd visited many many times through the visa waiver program (VWP) with no issues. To have a 6 month stay, a B-2 visa was required.

Sadly, even though we spent countless hours researching the B-2 visa, it was still denied due to the US embassy of London saying she didn't have strong enough ties to her home country. Which...in turn...makes you no longer also eligible for entry through the VWP. Had we only known this sooner. So now, unless we keep trying for a B-2 visa, she's stuck in England until the K-1 is done. Luckily I can afford to see her, but as an engineer at a successful manufacturing facility....they don't tend to let me take vacation very often.

But enough of the drama. I'm trying to stay positive. I've been reading the FAQ and help area and guidelines as much as I can, and I'm sure I'll have questions throughout the process. Hopefully I can find amazing members on the forums to help as well.

If anyone in particular has already done a K-1 dealing with the United Kingdom and London, and for sure wouldn't mind fielding questions from me, feel free to respond to this thread. i may message you directly instead of hunting down my questions.

Anyway, it was a pleasure to find this site, and I look forward to all of it and your amazing resources until the process is finally complete

Because you haven't actually filed the I-129F petition yet, and because your message isn't really a matter of the I-129F/K-1 process but is such a good introduction otherwise, I'm transferring your thread to the "Introducing Our Members" forum. You'll get some further welcomes there.

Meanwhile, read the K-1 "Guides" (link atop any VJ page) and see the regional subforum for the United Kingdom. If you then have specific questions that aren't answered by your reading and study, by all means post them. Again, welcome!

They don't...unless you have ever been denied a visa.

Because she had the B-2 visa denied because they didn't believe she had strong enough ties to her home country to return, that then made her no longer able to travel under the visa waiver program.

oh ok so it means they still need visa

if they did not need any visa they would not even have to apply for B2, specially if got denied it means they need visa

Welcome to the site...enjoy your stay to the lovely VisaJourney Our journey (my fiance and myself) our at our end for the K1 and like you we have spent pretty much most of our time apart through this whole process but if you stay true and keep communication in mind..it will be worth it in the end

So yeah I'm in the south myself (Alabama) and my fiance is in the UK..So if you have any questions along the way I can try my best to help you answer them from my personal experience but of course if I can't I can point you in the right direction So ..yeah..
