I'm including copies of letters my wife sent me with my I-130. Should I have my wife send me copies of the letters I sent her to include with the I-130? Or will they only be needed at the interview?

They aren't needed at all. There is no requirement to do anything like this.

***moved to process and procedures from progress reports***

As evidence yes you could have sent her those. You can still include them later at the NVC stage.

Ning - many people use letters or emails as evidence of an ongoing genuine relationship

I am aware they do. However as you must know there is no requirement to do so.

In my case we didn't and there was never a question. Married is married.

Married may be married but it says distinctly in the I-130 instructions to include evidence of a bona fide marriage and gives instructions on what sort of things to include.

I quote:

J. Any other relevant documentation to establish that there is an ongoing marital union.

They want to see an ongoing marital union and how someone chooses to show that, is up to them. More information is better than not enough. Obviously 1. E-H on the instructions are the best ways to prove a bona fide marriage so that means that I and J are secondary, but people should add those when you don't have the upper types.

Also I was asked at my interview, in Canada, how my husband and I communicated throughout our marriage. I was asked how we kept a close relationship when we only saw each other every 3 months for a week.

It is not that I disagree with you that the letters may not be necessary, but rather that I think that some love letters written between couples can be okay include if the couple chooses to do so.

Everything that is done is always up to the people doing it so I don't see your point in that statement. All I said was there is no requirement to send in love letters as you call them. Anyone can write anything but it doesn't mean it true. It also doesn't hurt to send these letters so if people want to believe it helps then that in itself is of help.

You and I had totally different experiences as is the case many times. I was never asked one question about any letters nor about my relationship with my husband. We submitted the docs as the relevant info and that was enough. No letters, emails, phone records ect.

In one case I know of in Thailand a USC submitted 10 lbs of phone records. That info went straight into the trash can.
