With a K-1 Visa in process, can you also put your name in the Diversity Lottery?

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but I'll throw out my question here (hoping I've chosen correctly).

August 2012 we began the process of applying for the K1 Visa. We are currently awaiting a scheduled interview. From the looks of it, we might be waiting until well into the new year before we get an interview. Egypt has had its share of struggles.

Because the wait feels forever, my fiance wants to feel like he's doing everything he can so we can finally be together. I know it probably will be the K1 Visa that reunites us, but is it legal for him to put his name in for the Diversity visa while we have a K1 Visa already in process?

That is fine, but the DV visa entry later this year, IF he wins, won't get him to the USA until 2015.

I know it will be 2015. I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be a problem for him to apply at the same time. I don't expect it will be the means to bringing us together, but I'm fine with him putting in his name when the application process opens in October. Thanks.
