If my comment bother you guys, then I am really sorry...

No need to be sorry! You have your knowledge to share as all of us here do. What would be interesting to know is... of those you refer to, how many are from Korea? Or what country they are from?

My friends are 3 from PI, one from China. I think these countries are looked at harder than Korea for visa fraud.

BTW, where are you from? I spent time in Seoul, Pyeongtaek, An Jeong Ri, worked on Seoul Air Base. I miss Korea!

On my case, I didn't have an interview but I was waiting my green card for 8 months. I had my EAD 2 months after I sent my AOS though. They will not let you know if you have an interview or not. But according to other applicants, mostly if you have an interview you will hear from USCIS most likely within 4 months but if its like 8 or s year they will just sent your green card.

As a K-1, there's about 50% chances not to have an interview. Not having one results in a long wait (sometimes more than a year). Having one generally results in a short wait (a few months).

Not necessarily. I got my green card approved and in my hand about 3 months after I filed my AOS and I had no interview. Of course, this was early 2012, and I know things have slowed down quite a bit since then, but I don't think not having an interview is a reason for it to take longer. It is probably coincidental.

I still think getting an interview from a K1 visa is a 50% chance or around there. We never received an interview for Pui's greencard just got the text message it was approved and then received it in the mail. I have seen 2 other K1's from Thailand get an interview for their greencard. DavenRoxy, one of my friends will be entering the country with his fiance this week and she will be entering in on a K1, she from the Philipines. I'll let you know if they get an interview for her greencard when the time comes. Also one of Pui's friends who was from the Philippines who interviewed for her K1 in Thailand had an interview scheduled for AOS but a few days before the interview someone called them asked them a few questions on the phone and said you do not need to come in to interview I have everything I need right here. Then she received her greencard

I miss Korea and Korean food. I was sad when I was in Thailand earlier this year there was no time to get to the Korean resturants in Bangkok. 99% of the time was spent at Pui's parents house outside Bangkok.

AOS Journey

11-04-2011 sent AOS to Chicago lockbox

11-07-2011 delivered

11-08-2011 Date on text messages but did not receive until 11-22-2011

11-23-2011 Check cashed.

11-25-2011 Hard copies of NOA1s

12-06-2012 Pui's Brother unexpectly passes away and we make an info pass appointment and receive an emergancy AP so she can return home. Pui leaves for Thailand for 2 weeks.

12-06-2012 Get a text message and email that she received an RFE

12-12-2012 RFE for original birth certificate. I swear we sent it along with a certificate translation of it.

12-20-2012 Pui returns from Thailand.

12-21-2012 We send the RFE back for with original birth certificate along with a new certificate of translation(I had to wait for her to return for her to sign)

12-26-2012 text and email they have received the RFE.

12-29-2012 Appointment for biometrics is 01-23-2012

01-13-2012 AP is approved.

01-23-2012 Biometrics appointment. Later during the evening the text and email saying the EAD is approved.

01-31-2012 EAD/AP combo card arrives.

05-22-2012 Email and text card is in production!

As you said, that's how it worked earlier last year. Right now, no interview = long wait. Everybody that is getting approved without interview is waiting, very often, more than 6 months. A few are even waiting like 9 months, and get scheduled for an interview! That may change overtime tough, like in earlier 2012.

To others, it doesn't really depend on your country of origin. It depends on how busy is your local USCIS office. If they are busy, then you will probably wait months. No way to know for sure in advance if you will have an interview or no.

Fair enough. It doesn't make sense to me that having an interview would make the process faster. You would think it would be faster without because that is one less step to do! Hopefully it gets better soon enough. :)

Did some searching of 8 USC, part 245, and found this:

§ 245.6 Interview.

Each applicant for adjustment of status under this part shall be interviewed by an immigration officer. This interview may be waived

in the case of a child under the age of 14;

when the applicant is clearly ineligible under section 245© of the Act or §245.1 of this chapter;

or when it is determined by the Service that an interview is unnecessary.

Clears it right up, eh? IF they deem an interview is unnecessary, then there won't be one.

{Service means U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and/or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as appropriate in the context in which the term appears.}

Hey what are you doing with this?

If you think my opinion is different with you, just leave it. do not make any offence. That's very rude thing.

I wrote I heard that. I've seen that several applicants who entered the US with K-1 got their green card without interview.

wow.gif Hey, no offense was intended, as mentioned in other responses. Therefore, no offense is expected…. Please calm down….no need to stress out about this stuff.

There are quite a few of us that have already had an AOS interview, and would have preferred the interview being waved. Oh well, that is the way is goes with USCIS. That being said, it is a great relief for my family to have adjusted their status, get their green cards, and not have mess with USCIS for 21-months.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Soojung, he was giving a thumbs up (means he agrees with) to big dog, not you. He highlighted in red your statement, because it is wishful thinking. Many K-1 AOS filers have to do an interview. Might depend on locality, business of USCIS... IDK. But I know that all 4 K1 couples I know personally all had to do an interview. Three had to do biometrics multiple times.

Exactly, thank you! :thumbs:

My husband EAD/AP was approved at the beginning of June, but we haven't yet received any letter notifying us of an interview or otherwise. It's been silence. The status on USICS still shows acceptance and hasn't budged. I would've rather had an interview and then approved on the spot!

Same here.

That is very frustrating. We must have gotten lucky because we got interview letter, and when we went, got GC and EAD in the mail the same day (though EAD was invalidated by the GC).

Sucks to wait and wait and wait without knowing what is going on.
