I'm currently waiting on the K1 visa, and my fiance is self employed with no health insurance. I however do want health insurance when I move over, How would I go about this? Do I have to wait for my SSN or can I do it before then? Would it be after the wedding or could I apply for it to start as soon as I get there? Would it be better to wait til I found a job that had health insurance, or if I got some first and got a better deal when I got a job could I stop the one and take the other?

Private health insurance is available, and you don't need a SSN, but with a job it's usually cheaper because the employer pays a part of the premium. If you got some private insurance then you got a job with a better health insurance deal, then you could switch, of course.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!
