SI called USCIS on the 28th and they told me my two petitions were approved (the day before) and transferred downstairs. So, I called the IV section and they wanted a case number or receipt number, and of course I have none of this - so they looked it up. They informed me it was probably in transit to NVC and to wait for an assigned case number.

First, I didn't think the petition went to the NVC, but instead stayed in the Embassy in the Philippines. Does it stay in the embassy, or does it actually go to NVC (which I assume is in the US)?

Second, how can I track this at the NVC level without a case number or receipt number?

Third, can I contact NVC some way and get some type of status update or number?

Lastly, a little off topic. For DCF we pay the $230 visa fee at the interview, right? Will I not be prompted upon registering online to pay this fee? Or we it somehow work out when I emial me the forms that I will only have to pay at interview? Kind of confused on when I pay since I DCF filed.

Thank you!

it stays inside the Embassy.

the human you spoke to was suffering from misinformation ganja.

If you feel the need to 'get more info', by all means - call in again.

I say call 5 times, record the answer each time,

then take the top 40 percent answer as gospel.

Folk answering the phone are not USCitizens, and are more interested in getting you OFF the phone than in giving you accurate information.

Sorry.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Thank you! I just called again, this time to USCIS, and the lady said "No. it does not leave the embassy. It just goes downstairs and takes time with all the applications."

Maybe I should call the IV section again, or I will have my wife check.

Have you tried calling the IV section to get your case number? My husband and I've been taking turns calling this week and they've been saying that they haven't received it from USCIS yet. I don't understand how hard it is to send the papers from upstairs to downstairs :( Would you happen to know how long from I-130 approval till we can get our case number from IV section? Anxiously waiting... By the way, I found out my petition for my husband was approved on 08/30 :)

I keep hearing it takes about 3-5 working days to get a case number from when they send it downstairs. I called both IV and USCIS and USCIS told my that they had actually just sent the petition on the 3rd of Sept. Kind of frustrating that they sat on the petition for 3 working days, but with all these closings and holidays it's not surprising.

Grats on approval!

Thank you! Congrats on yours as well :) Yes, my husband and I were talking about how they might not be on top of things because of the closings. We just want to be able to leave before December because I'm pregnant and won't be able to travel. The letter of expedite I turned in with the I-130 didn't seemt to make any difference :(

Will try to call again tomorrow! Please keep me updated with your case! I'll keep you posted here as well :)
