Hi, I am trying to bring my parents to come and live with me in US. Their case has been approved but I cant sponsor them because I dont make enough money and cant find a joint sponsor. How can I use assests like cash in bank? How much money should I have? I am alone and I dont have any dependants. Also my parents own a house in my country, does that count?. I am a refugee that came to US 9 years ago is there any help for refugees to bring their family? . Can someone please help me. I am desperate because my parents are old and sick and they have no one that can take care of them. Sorry for too many questions cray5ol.gif

You would need to demonstrate five times the difference in the shortfall between the required sponsorship level and your income, so if you needed to show sponsorship of $20,000 and you only had an income of $15,000 then you would need to show assets of 5 x $5,000, so $25,000.

without a joint sponsor there isn't much you can do, especially, as you said, your parents are old and sick. If you cannot afford to support them, how will you be able to afford healthcare and medical expenses for them? They will not be eligible for government assisted programs. A joint sponsor is needed to make sure they do not become a public charge.

This is the formula you need to apply to figure out how much assets you need.

For 2013 and a household of 3, you need to earn $24,412. Subtract how much you make annually from that amount. Then multiply that by 5 and that is how much assets you will need.

For example: You earn $20,000 per year. Subtract that from $24,412 and you have $4,412. Multiply $4,412 by 5 and the result is $22,060 in assets.

Your parents' house will not count.

Being a refugee does not matter. Everyone is treated the same.

If your parents are old and sick, how do you plan to pay for ther medical needs? You do know that they do not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid, right? You do know that they have to overcome the hurdle that they are likely to become public charges because they are unlikely to be able to afford medical care and thus would not be eligible for visas, right?

I have $ 25000 cash. How can I use this as assets should I put it in my bank?I have a part time job

You need to be able to show where you got $25,000 in cash from. It cannot be a loan. There will be questions like does someone who makes less than $25,000 per year pay her expenses and save $25,000 in cash?
