Hi guys- I just realized that I sent a check for $190 for I131 instead of $170...I was lookin at the I130 box instead of 131. stupid mistake, i know.

So now what should i do- can i send a check for the correct amount to the lockbox now or do i have to wait until they return my check to me? how much of a delay might this cause his advanced parole?? we're trying to get it before mid-May so he can go to my brother's wedding in mexico.

have i totally shot ourselves in the foot???

Sept 26- mailed I129F from the UK

Oct 04- NSC receives Petition

Oct 7- Check cashed, we're in the system!

Oct 12- NOA1 receivedl

Oct 21- NOA2 RECEIVED! (email)!! yeah baby, yeah!!!!

Oct 25 NSC ships application to NVC...really rolling now...

Nov 4- NVC ships case to Dublin!!

Nov. 24- Packet 3 received

Dec. 8- Packet 3 materials mailed to Embassy

Dec. 13- Medical in Cork

January 27, 2006- The Interview- SUCCESS!

Feb. 7- He arrived in America- welcome home sweetie!!

Feb. 8- legally married at the Indianapolis clerk's office

Feb. 25- Mailed AOS, EAD, and AP to Chicago lockbox (packet weighed 2.6 pounds!), rec'd Feb. 27

Mar. 6- Received NOAs for I485 and I765, rejection for I131 (incorrect payment). I485 has wrong A#.

Mar. 7- Resubmitted I131

Mar. 14- NOA for I131

April 1, 2006- our Wedding with family and friends in Michigan!!

April 14- Biometrics appointment in Indianapolis

April 25- received Advance Parole

June 19- AOS interview, Indianapolis--APPROVED

June 30- GREEN CARD ARRIVES!!!

You might get an RFE with a returned cheque if it is in the wrong amount, but I don't know. If you can, you might contact USCIS once it is processed and find out.

26 January 2005 - Entered US as visitor from Canada.
16 May 2005 - Assembled health package, W2s.
27 June 2005 - Sent package off to Chicago lockbox.
28 June 2005 - Package received at Chicago lockbox.
11 July 2005 - RFE: cheques inappropriately placed.

25 August 2005 - AOS touched.
29 August 2005 - AP, EAD, I-485 touched.

My guess is they will return the whole package with the check. You can then resubmit it with the correct funds and it should be fine. Good luck.

Make sure you follow up on this with them straight away if you want to leave in May. My friend mailed all his stuff off and accidentally made the check out for 5 dollars more than it should have been. He didn't realize anything was wrong until they returned it to him - 3 MONTHS LATER!!!!

November 22nd 2005: Received receipts for I485, I130 and I131

December 6th 2005: Received RFE for medical

December 15th 2005: Biometrics appointment

February 23rd 2006: I131 touched

February 25th 2006: I485 touched - medical has been received at Chicago Lockbox

March 31st 2006: I131 touched

April 3rd 2006: I131 touched

April 3rd 2006: I131 received!!!!

May 5th 2006: Interview notice received

June 21st 2006: Interview - APPROVED!!

May 2008: Applied to remove conditions at Nebraska service center

May 2008: forwarded to CSC

June 19th 2008: Biometrics

August 21st 2008 card production ordered - YAY California!!

Here is the update. We spoke with USCIS this morning, and they told us that the I131 would be returned...couldn't say how long but the lady was guessing at least 30 days. Needless to say we were both upset...mostly at ourselves for making such a stupid mistake.

BUT THEN...i got the mail this afternoon, and lo and behold, we had two NOAs (for I485 and I765) and the returned I131 requesting proper payment. How's that for tidying up a few loose ends!

We did have a few questions on the stuff they returned but I'll post that experience separately.

Lessons learned- triple-check everything!! and never give up hope :)
