I have read horror stories about the US Consulate in Casablanca. Basically, I invited my friend to come visit me for a few weeks. I had invited a friend of mine from Turkey, who was a student and not from a particularly wealthy family and had no way of supporting himself yet I signed a letter of invitation, and I signed the financial support form and they asked him a few questions and gave him a 10 year visa with unlimited visits. He came and I sent him home, he returned the next year, and went home, he never overstayed and never stayed longer than a few weeks. My friend in Morocco? Different story. He finished college, works and has significant ties to his country such as owning property yet they denied him 4 or 5 months ago and said he had insufficient funds. So he saved his money and he has the equivalent of $10,000-$12,000 in his account as liquid available funds. He applied for his tourist visa again and he got a woman of Asian descent - he said she was very rude to him and automatically assumed we were dating and he told her no, and he said she was very short asked him very few questions and said he'd have an answer in 7-10 days. My letter simply said this:

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is to formally invite Omar E to stay with me in my home in New York for a period of 2-3 weeks. Omar and I were connected through mutual friends and have developed a strong friendship over the last year. We have traveled together throughout the southern half of Morocco and I would love the opportunity to share my culture and country with him, as he so graciously did with me in Morocco.

Omar is leaving Morocco for Australia next year, and with the large time difference and physical distance, it will be much more difficult to communicate and/or see each other. I would like him to experience America and New York before going off on to the next chapter of his education and life in Australia.

I know Omar and his family have the funds to support him while he is here on vacation, however, should an emergency arise, I am more than capable, and have the funds to help him so that he does not become a burden on the American system or it’s people. I will be providing the food, shelter and local transportation, all Omar needs to have money for is spending money on gifts and attractions.

I work full time for Westchester County in the finance department of Social Services. I am in the process of receiving a significant promotion, so that will only add to my ability to provide emergency assistance to Omar while he is here.

I have completed a supplemental Affidavit of Support and accept responsibility for him while he is here. If there is any additional information that is needed on my part, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,

----

This woman said this sounded like a girlfriend's letter - which shocks me because to me it comes off as very professional and is how I communicate daily at my job. She basically accused him of lying...Not only that, but he has been accepted and is going to Australia in 2014 so clearly he won't stay in the States and has money to travel abroad.

It hasn't been denied yet, but based on what he told me and how the conversation went I'm pretty sure it is.

My question is this...if they tell you 7-10 days and don't ask for proof of address or give you additional paperwork before you leave does that mean it's denied? Because in Istanbul, my other friend, his interviewer said "have a nice trip!" gave him a paper to give to the front desk and said he'd receive his passport from UPS in a few days and sure enough it came with an approved Tourist visa. Someone at the embassy had told him that if he was getting his passport in "a few days' especially via "UPS" that it meant it was approved and low and behold it was.

Does the same 'sign' apply to the Casablanca embassy? Why is this so difficult???? Please let me know! Because she said 7-10 days does that mean it was denied?

Well that was not at all my intention...

However, my question is more or less asking if the 7-10 day wait for an answer basically means "you're not getting a visa and we're going to send it local mail so it will take time"

because in Turkey if they send it UPS then that means it was approved... I keep searching high and low online and can't seem to find an answer about this

There is no visa delivery by mail system in US consulate of Casablanca, if he will be granted his visa he will be called to pick it up either from the consulate or, according to the new system they are setting up in Casa, in one of the two Aramex offices http://morocco.usembassy.gov/visas/nonimmigrant-visas.html. And yes it's common that they are strict and skeptical when it comes to tourist visas unless you are an older person so to visit family or children.

Good luck

Another vote for Girlfriend letter.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
