Hi!

I have just noticed that my status on the USCIS website changed from "Acceptance" to "Testing and Interview".

I have also read on a website the list of documents that I should bring, but we don't have any of that. We don't have an insurance yet, cause we're waiting for me to be able to get a job, and my husband to be out of his family's; we have different bank accounts because we don't believe in a common one, and we are way too young to have a mortgage debt. Suggestions? Also any tips and tricks are very welcome.

Are you both on say the same car insurance policy? Do you pay rent and if so, does the lease say both names or can the landlord provide a letter saying you both live there.

I would suggest opening up a joint account anyways and show proof of this at the interview.

USCIS realizes that most folks starting the AOS process don't have much joint stuff. Do what you can and take what you can to the interview. Save any joint account info, it will be necessary for the ROC step later on in your immigration journey. :guides: (accessible at the top of the forum page). In particular, the K1/K3 AOS Guide:

:time: It helps everyone that uses the forum. Additionally it enables other members to more accurately respond to your particular immigration situation.

Good luck.

No...We are renting half of a small apartment with his brother and sister in law, and the car is his...He had it even before we met. He pays all the bills, which go trough his brother and sister in law since we are living with them but the apartment lease is theirs. He pays for our part of rent and bills while I pay for food, dates and stuff. We were thinking that we might have to open a bank account together, even though we don't believe in joint bank accounts because of past stories we have seen and heard.

I've had a bad experience with joint account of something with my sister (cell phone) when I was younger, but I knew that when I proposed to my now wife that we had to share some things financially together to prove to the immigration people that we are indeed doing this legitimately and for the long run. We have 2 bank accounts together and I'm also on her cell phone plan as well. We also are the co-owners of the condo we are living in to lease, as well as co-partners in a home business that she started.

Not all joint things are necessarily bad

Well, I am even more convinced that the only possible thing to do is the bank account together, even though we won't use it. All the other things, we either already have or we are too young and poor to do. This is really frustrating.

Agree. It can be frustrating, if you let it get to you. Try to remember that this whole immigration process is not a sprint, but a marathon....pace yourself, you are moving along.
