means that someone is actually looking at your case... and from what i can understand, it doesn't necessarily mean anything... i believe someone posted somewhere before that sometimes people get approved with LOTS of touches... NO TOUCHES... or just a few touches... but, i am sure that there is someone here with more experience than i who can answer your question better...

If you register at the USCIS site to have them send you notifications by email of any status changes on your accounts, you can log in to that account as well, and it will show you what your current status is as well as the last date that someone looked at or 'touched' your file. A touch is usually when someone has looked at your file but the status information hasn't changed. We have no idea what they did, if anything, but it is a record that as of that day someone had the file open for some reason. If you check the file daily you will see when it is 'touched' because they don't send you email notifications unless the status actually changes. Hope this helps.

I have come to the belief that it those people who work at the centers must notate the file even if they access it accidentally. This may account for why some people get so many touches.

The reason I came to this conclusion is that I worked for a cell phone provider and when we entered anyone's account we ahd to notate it even if by accident. The system still recorded a note if you accessed account but in order to cover your butt you had to notate it yourself.

or they could be cleaning the files, it does get dusty sometimes.
