It says you do, to prove they are of American nationality. Also, everyone on britexpat says it's a must. Several people get asked for it and some don't. It's a risk you take. Either a passport, birth certificate, ect... Original or certified copy. If you have kids here too (british) you'll need their birth certificates, even if they aren't immigrating. Long form for everything!

I also forgot to add that she sent her bank statements as well.

We did not have our co-sponsor's birth certificate to prove USC but we had had a copy of his passport. Unfortunately it was misplaced on the day of the interview but in London what they did was look up the records to check that he did indeed hold a US passport and that was sufficient for them. It turned out the photocopy was stuck between two other sheets of paper so we would have found it had we been forced to keep raking. But, yes, you need to be able to demonstrate that the sponsors are USCs.

Best wishes

Laura

Firstly thanks to all of you for posting your experiences on this forum - it has made the process for us that much less stressful being able to see what is going on with similar cases filed almost on the same day as ours. So I thought I'd contribute. I think we are pioneers a bit with this, seeing as our petition wasn't even possible until the supreme court decision striking down doma on june 25th (we have been together for 12 1/2 years and became civil partners in the uk in feb 2006).

We filed the i-130 on july 8th and noa2 was issued on july 15th. I also never received noa3 - after reading this forum I called the us dos line and they gave me the lnd number over the phone on aug 15th. With packet 3 docs sent back to the embassy on aug 22, the medical done on aug 30th in london (and what looks like receipt by the embassy on sept 4th) I am now trying to figure out how long I should leave it before calling or emailing to see if I can get the interview date (so I can plan work and travel around it). Do any of you know if the dos telephone line has access to that information or is an email to the london embassy a better option?

Thanks again everybody - particularly lostatsea, your guide has been really helpful!

Hey. You're most welcome.

Not sure what you mean by noa3? You're currently waiting on "Packet 4". There's a bunch of K applicants waiting on their interview dates with a timing similar to yours, so wouldn't panic.

Did you put anything in your cover letter about travel plans?

DoS know the same as the embassy, generally speaking. What you likely want to know from them us did they get all your forms, have they got your medical results and have they scheduled you an interview date?

It's really hard to predict, but as a wishy washy rule, you should anticipate Packet 4 within about 4 weeks of them receiving the final bit of information about you (which sounds like your medical results).

I'm sorry I did mean Packet 4! Yes, I did send a cover letter explaining that it would be great if they could schedule the appointment as soon as possible as we are hoping to move by the end of October (and that I would also be available for short-notice cancellations).

I can see that the online CEAC touch date was updated on 4th September which looks like it would be the medical docs from my august 30th medical, but there was no CEAC touch date update after I sent Packet 3 back to them on August 22nd (though Royal Mail special delivery did say it was delivered successfully). I noticed in your timeline that they updated your touch date immediately after you sent packet 3 docs in. Do you think it is worth emailing them next week to confirm if they have the forms, medical results and interview date? I guess I might be getting overoptimistic about timelines for processing after seeing just how quickly you completed the process, though I am also panicking a bit seeing as they changed this week to a different process from DS-230-I and DS-2001 (the forms I sent on August 22nd) to form d-260 & I just hope they will accept the forms I sent to them in August (a few days prior to the medical). If not, online D-260 requests an "Invoice ID number" - I don't know what that is...

Is LondonConsular@state.gov the best email address?

Tomandkatie & Dbrantz - did your CEAC touch date get updated after sending in packet 3?
