I am curious--

After filing your I-130 and G325A---when you get your first notice of action- it basically is a receipt of payment-- and confirmation that they will BEGIN the process-- from that time it is about 4 months until anything else happens?--

what is going on over such a long period of time--

what are they doing with the paperwork sent in?

then when you get your SECOND NOA-- it looks like at that point it gets sent to the NVC- for collection of documents- and depending on how fast you reply you can get through that in a few weeks or a month to two?

at which point it is sent to the consular office for final interview and medical exam results etc etc..

so those first 4 months?? what is going on on their end??

seems kind of long... BUT gives me more time to get my paperwork ready-- as I wait... and wait.... and wait.

And FURTHER MORE-- is their a "fees at a glance" for a family visa--? what are the TOTAL fees?

I130 / G325 is $420 then

I 864 is another $88

what other fees are there- the I230 - is that $165

would that be all?-- BEFORE i started to do this - I DID ask some prices for a lawyer- and one quoted me $7500!!! sounds Waaaaay high-- if someone could summarize all the fees that I will encounter I would appreciate it--

thanks

It takes so long for a few reasons. They are the government and thus inherently inefficient, they are testing your resolve as a couple, they are processing your petition and running background checks on both of you, etc.

The fees are 420 for I-130 petition, 88 for AOS, 230 for IV bill, 165 to print the greencard. Not to mention fees for police checks, medical, immunizations, obtaining original documents, passport photos, and on and on.

many things can be happening. background checks that need a deeper look. They are checking some things. Also waiting in line for your turn. Most petitions are just sitting at NBC until that 4 to 5 month wait than shipped to the local USCIS office.

fees

I-130 Petition fee - $420 per applicant

AOS (affidavit of support) Fee - $88 (just pay once no matter how many you are petitioning for)

IV Fee (Immigration Fee) - $230 per applicant

Green Card Production fee - $165 per Visa approved

Right now the processing time really is more 8 months to 1 year or more. Depending where you live and your field office may be less maybe more.

Also go to the NVC Filers thread and read Post #1 and #2 and follow the thread while you are waiting to get updates and happening for your next step.

I recently read that nvc processed over 40 million visa applications in 2012, which would lead me to believe that uscis has somewhere around 3 times the workload with all the other things they do at minimum..

with that many applications, I think you can generate your own conclusions as to what they are doing while your file is under review
