Really bad dilemma

Basically I think only dog lovers will be able to help out here but this is what we are faced with:

We are bringing our two rottweillers to the states when we move (when) but now we have found that our female, Tia, who is only 6 years old has a growth on her side that has opened up. We took her to the vets last night and they say it is a cyst that will have to be removed and a biopsy done to check if it is cancerous :crying: If it is cancerous there is no way that the vet will give us a certificate saying she is fit and healthy and Ok to move to the states, we have to have a letter from the vet before she will be accepted on the plane and for immigration. She is booked in for the operation on the 18th of this month so I will be taking the time of work so I can look after her when they tell me I can bring her home. I am so scared for her.

If she is given the all clear then she will be coming with us but if it is cancer what do I do?? it will break my heart if we have to have her put to sleep and Morgan, the dog, wil miss her so much, he will pine. There is no one who could take her for us.

As if we have not got enough on our plate with this waiver hanging over us, now we get this ;)

Val,

I've been thinking about you! I'm so sorry this has happened. I think if someone doesn't love their pets enough to consider them family, they don't need to have pets. I am a cat person myself and a few years ago, I watched as my baby became sicker and sicker from stomach cancer. I had to have her put to sleep. It was such a tough choice. I really don't have any advice for you, but I will be saying a special prayer for Tia tonight!

Val I am so sorry to hear that your baby is sickly. I had Doberman's in the past and we faced an illness with one so I can relate to how traumatic this is for you and Alan. All you can do is hope for the best outcome and then maybe get a new mate for Morgan if she is too sickly. Keep looking daily for an update on your waiver and will now say an extra prayer for you new dilemma. Take care and always in my thoughts and prayers.

Try not to fear the worst, maybe it is just a fatty tumor or benign cyst. We had a lab in the kennel off and on for over two years that was diagnosed with cancer. She would go through spells were she would lose a little weight but overall she was as healthy as the other family pet. She was always on vitamins and supplements which I think attributed to her good health and a much more comfortable and longer life. I hope it all turns out for the best and she springs back as healthy as ever.

:crying: that's terrible! Poor baby doggie...I hope it turns out not to be cancerous, and that the vet will give the all clear for her to come with you guys! This is the kind of thing that terrifies me about my Willie getting up there in years. Can't imagine life without him around. I really hope everything turns out to be ok!

aww, sorry Val! :( I don't know what to say except that I hope everything turns out alright on the 18th..that the best will happen so you don't have to worry about this or make any sort of decision. My nephew and his wife just had to put down one of their two dogs due to cancer and they were devastated...Buddy was like one of their kids. (they don't have children yet) At least you don't *know* that anything is wrong, so keep hopeful!!! Thinking of you...M.

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry to hear about your dog! It may turn out to be nothing- possibly just a cyst. My dog had a cyst on her ear once and it popped. It turned out to be just fine, and here she is three years later, still running me ragged!

Don't think of the worst just yet. If it turns out she is sick, find out the prognosis and make the best decision from there. Sometimes, there are agencies that take on sick animals. And you may be able to bring her here for treatment. Contact the US customs department and see what your options may be in that regard.

Good luck! I'll say a prayer for your dog tonight.

Val, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the both of you. Don't expect the worst yet, I hope it will all turn out just fine in the end.

Sorry about your cat as well, brnidokiegurl. I know what you feel like, my cat died last week, 18 years of age. Im in the US right now visiting my fiance, and although I'm so happy to be back here with him, it makes it worse knowing she passed away without me being by her side, like she was by mine almost all my life.

(F)

The world around you gets hazy and the only thing you focus on is you and that person. And for that one moment you've been given this amazing gift and you want to laugh and you want to cry at the same time because you're so lucky you've found it and so scared that it will go away.

Hi! *HUG* I'm so sorry to hear about this!

I don't know much about what the qualifications are to bring a pet into the US, but if it is cancerous (let's hope it's not!) it's not like she could spread the cancer to other dogs or people. My understanding had always been that they check the dog for communicable illnesses like rabies or distemper. If the vet has some reservations about letting the dog travel while sick, maybe your fiance' can get into contact with some vets in the US and have the two vets talk about treatment the dog will receive in the US.

Edit: I'm sure that if the vet where you are knows that the only alternative to being flexible about letting the dog travel is that you would have to put her to sleep, I think and hope he would work with you, esp. since there's a good chance the dog would recover fine. Also, my aunt's dog had cancer for many years and he died when he was 18, so don't dispair even if it IS cancer. *hug again*

I hope the diagnosis is negative for cancer! My dog is also having some health problems these days (with the adrenal gland) so I know how hard this can be.

:(

I hope the operation goes well, and that it isn't cancer.

I did want to say, that my cat had a cancerous tumour. She was 17, it happened very quickly, but to this day, 12 years later, I really regret that I dragged it out a little. My parents were out of the country and they didn't want me to do anything until they returned, and then we watched her for a week... she just got sicker and sicker and dehydrated etc. I feel so guilty that because we didn't want to let her go, we might have let her suffer longer than she had to.

I'm not trying to be depressing, just giving my experience on the dilemma of having to make that choice. I wish I had been stronger and done it right away.

Thank you all so much, we are going to wait and see and hope and pray that she is Ok and if she is, just fantastic, if not we will have to make the hardest decision we will have made for a long time.

And to top it all (they say things come in three's) first the waiver, now Tia, and I have just visited a house site that I go on, checking on what is available and one we have been keeping our eyes on and which we both love to bits has now been reduced by a further $10,000 and it has the massive garden, bit like a football pitch  that would be just perfect for our dogs, :o I cannot believe it, no way is it going to be on by the time we get our case complete and can get over there, providing that they give us the approval that is

When you are down, why does someone up there insist on kicking you a wee bit more :(
