You really should start your own thread so it does not get confused with the OP.

BTW, the short answer is no about needing to be pregnant to be added to your husband's health insurance.

Your husband should start by asking his HR now about his health insurance policy/options available to him.

Yes , right i will start own thread

We tried to have a family health insurance plan as soon as i got here but was denied without my ssn, then when i had it they denied us because i wasn't here for at least 6 months.... On february i got pregnant and since i had a pre existent condition (hahahaha!!!, can't believe they call a pregnancy as it) they refuse again, so what we did was call an OB and make a payment plan out of pocket, plus a payment plan in the hospital... it was our best solution.... and it really call my nerves

I love you Charles forever!!

If you are Pregnant then something PREviously happened.

Unless it was an immaculate conception?

You do no need to have a SSN for Health Insurance, 6 months in country may apply to certain insurers for certain types of policy in certain States.

I want to thank you everyone for your advice and suggestions. After reading your posts, i have a new question. If I decide to have my wife deliver the child in India. What are the formalities and issues that I have to deal with the U.S Embassy to bring my child. I know CR-1 was hard enough already.

Before flying back to India having the baby, look into having the baby at a birth center. We did and with all the prenatal and the after birth check ups and the delivery we paid $6000. Over here i would say that was a bargain ;-)

Also, going back to India means you have to spend quite some time there, or at least your wife. She probably don't want to fly too late in her pregnancy, some air lines has strict guide lines about that. And after the baby is born you have to do the report of birth at the embassy. I don't know about India but for us in Sweden it was a months wait for that so you are looking to be apart for about 3 something months....

I feel for you I work in healthcare as a case manager not sure there is much you can do, I don't know what you do for a living but have you thought of looking for a different job. Yes for most this is not an option but only thought I had. The other thing is when is she due? is it after open enrollment ? Insurance companies are not suppose to discrimanate for pre existing conditions If that is the case you could pay out of pocket for her prenatal care but birth would be covered and if there is any type of emergency the ER and hospital have to care for her. Will pray for you guys and hope all works out well.

Here are a few sites to check out which may help you find some reasonable alternatives:

http://www.livestrong.com/article/284152-low-cost-health-insurance-for-pregnancy/

http://americanpregnancy.org/planningandpreparing/affordablehealthcare.html

http://www.livestrong.com/article/221012-affordable-health-insurance-that-covers-pregnancy/

Other Options

Ask your health care providers about installment or sliding-scale payments. Look for free or reduced-cost care in the online directories of the American Association of Birth Centers, National Association of Community Health Centers, National Association of Free Clinics and National Healthy Start Association. Contact the Maternal Child Health Bureau's prenatal care line at 1-800-311-BABY/2229 (English) or 1-800-504-7081 (Spanish). It is illegal for a hospital to turn away a woman in active labor, whatever her financial situation.

Just go to the hospital, they will give you a variety of options. Yes, we don't have a perfect medical system here, but they are many people willing to help you just need to go to the hospital and figure out where to get help. Especially for pregnant women, there is ALWAYS help available!

You do no need to have a SSN for Health Insurance, 6 months in country may apply to certain insurers for certain types of policy in certain States.

For group plans such as employer provided health insurance, pregnancy cannot be considered a pre existing condition and therefore you cannot be denied coverage during open enrollment.

In regards to calling for quotes, don't be afraid with asking and make many calls. Did that with my wife and daughter for that I-693 that is not covered by my health insurance. Received quotes for the same exact form from anywhere for $1,400 for the both of them up to $12,000! We had to drive 320 miles for that $1,400.00 quote, they honored it, got it in writing, But even at $4.50 for a gallon of gas was well worth it.

Health insurance is a problem for all of us. Latest grandson, son's rotten policy is first meeting a $7,000 yearly deductible than followed by a 20% co-payment. At $16,500 total bill, he had to lay out $8,900.00 for that kid.

Just 30 years ago, for him, was a flat charge of $464.00 for prenatal care, delivery, four days back then in a hospital, and the baby post natal care. Didn't even need health insurance.

My kids that are medical doctors have their side of the story two. Even for a short two minute visit for a very minor problem, every case has to be fully documented or else could be liable for a malpractice claim. Then they have to fight with an insurance company, even as long as 9 months to receive payment.

All I can say, is to blame the government, one of the nice gifts we received from the Reagan administration that was never changed since then. Also came up with a precondition. One of my kids had that, and was kicked off my insurance policy. Darn near broke me.

$1400 is still a lot for the i-693. Even for 2 people. Where do you live that people would resort to extortion like that?

I've heard from anywhere between 150 to 500 in my area. That's just to fill out the form, do TB test and some blood work. Immunization is suppose to be covered 100% with insurance so I got the shots from walgreens that I didn't have to pay out of pocket for.

Odd

I got my I 693 for nothing?
