Just wondering what happens after a 10 yr GC expires?

12th Jan 05 - Interview at Embassy

AOS

20th Apr 05 - Mailed AOS and paperwork to Chicago.

27th Oct 05 - Received Green Card in Mail (2 yr Conditional)

I-751

24th Jul 07 - Mailed I-751 to TSC

27th Jul 07 - I-751 Received at TSC (Transferred to CSC)

17th Aug 07 - Check Cleared

20th Aug 07 - NOA received (2 NOA's both with dif. receipt #'s for the same thing hmmm..)

30th Aug 07 - ACS Biometrics letters received

21st Sep 07 - Biometrics appointment at Charlotte

1st Nov 07 - Case status online reads "Card production ordered"

3rd Nov 07 - Greencard received in mail

12/02/06 (Saturday)- mailed I-130/AOS/EAD to CHI via express mail

12/04/06 (Monday)- Packet delivered to CHI/Receipt date in NOA1 (Day 1)

12/08/06 - Checks cashed (Day 4)

12/11/06 - Received NOA1/I-797C Notice (Day 7)

12/14/06 - Touched: I-130/AOS/EAD (Day 10)

12/18/06 - Touched: I-130/EAD (Day 14)/ Received Biometrics Letter

12/19/06 - Touched: I-130/EAD (Day 15)

12/27/06 - Had Biometrics taken (Day 23)

12/28/06 - Touched: AOS/EAD (Day 24)

01/04/07 - Touched: AOS/EAD (Day 32)

01/22/07 - Received Interview Letter for March 8, 2007 (Day 50) (Thank you Lord!!!)

Not much happens. Unlike the situation with the 2-year conditional card, once you have unconditional LPR status, your status does not expire, only the card which is evidence of that status expires.

You need to fill out a form and request a new card. If you're late in renewing your card, there's no penalty, but you won't have any evidence of your status to use for work permission, travel, etc.

04 Apr, 2004: Got married

05 Apr, 2004: I-130 Sent to CSC

13 Apr, 2004: I-130 NOA 1

19 Apr, 2004: I-129F Sent to MSC

29 Apr, 2004: I-129F NOA 1

13 Aug, 2004: I-130 Approved by CSC

28 Dec, 2004: I-130 Case Complete at NVC

18 Jan, 2005: Got the visa approved in Caracas

22 Jan, 2005: Flew home together! CCS->MIA->SFO

25 May, 2005: I-129F finally approved! We won't pursue it.

8 June, 2006: Our baby girl is born!

24 Oct, 2006: Window for filing I-751 opens

25 Oct, 2006: I-751 mailed to CSC

18 Nov, 2006: I-751 NOA1 received from CSC

30 Nov, 2006: I-751 Biometrics taken

05 Apr, 2007: I-751 approved, card production ordered

23 Jan, 2008: N-400 sent to CSC via certified mail

19 Feb, 2008: N-400 Biometrics taken

27 Mar, 2008: Naturalization interview notice received (NOA2 for N-400)

30 May, 2008: Naturalization interview, passed the test!

17 June, 2008: Naturalization oath notice mailed

15 July, 2008: Naturalization oath ceremony!

16 July, 2008: Registered to vote and applied for US passport

26 July, 2008: US Passport arrived.

You have to lodge an I-90 to replace an expiring card. If you have become a US citizen, since becoming a permanent resident, you will of course not need to worry about this.

10/22/2007 Filed I-130 x 2 in person + paid 710 USD (355 each )

10/22/2007 Filed DS-230 part 1 x 2

10/22/2007 Received the document checklist and FRN (case) numbers

12/18/2007 I-130 petition approved, but I didn't know. I was away at the time, didn't get confirmation letters til I got back from the states.

12/20/2007 Notice of Approval arrives in tha mail. According to the date received stamp on back of envelope at my post box.

Will now wait til hubby is back from Iraq to fax in checklist readiness, even though, I have been ready since day of lodging I-130's. all except medical.

02/18/2008 Faxed the "checklist" back to the consulate.

02/25/2008 Medicals completed.

02/25/2008 Appt letters in mail for appt on March 7th. Cant go due to prior military commitments. Emailed consulate and received an amended appt date of March 12th 2008.

03/12/2008 Visa interview - APPROVED x 2

03/27/2008 Visa's finally generated. I emailed the consulate. they apologised for the delay. They forgot to issue the visas after approval.

03/31/2008 Received visas

04/26/2008 Flying out of Frankfurt to next duty station on orders.

Thanks for the info. I always wondered what happens after the 10 years.

With the I-90, there is no option for expiring GC etc, by the looks of it, you would need to file I-751 again. Or maybe I just missed that part lol.

But it certainly is interesting that if you only do the GC thing you will be in debt to USCIS forever lol. (Nice little earner for the USCIS) lol

BUt, if you naturalize then move back to say the UK, you forever pay the IRS? do'h no win situation.

Conditions only need to be removed once. When removed they stay removed.

Read I-90 again.
