Hello fellow vj members!!

We received our approved hard copy of NOA2 last Saturday, August 24. Below the type of approval there is Validity period of 8/20/2013 to 12/19/2013.

It is confusing us because we are wondering if I (beneficiary) should be there in US before the expiry date of NOA2 but based on what we read there is certain grace period before the visa expires.

Now we would like to ask what does the validity mean or what is that validity for?

Any advice will be highly appreciated..

Thank you so much!smile.png

The validity dates from August 20, 2013 to December 19. 2013 of the NOA 2 means that you should have the medical with SLEC and K1 interview with the USEM within the period.

The Form I-797 Visa PETITION approval (NOA2) means that the USC visa PETITION has been approved. The approved petition will now be forwarded to the NVC for further processing by the Department of State. This will include the visa APPLICATION by the beneficiary. :guides: (accessible at the top of the forum page) In particular, refer to the K-1 flowchart for details:

Expiry date on NOA 2 is not really important. The Consulate of the beneficiary reserves the right to extend that expiry date to whichever they want, and they often do it when they deem it necessary to. No need for worries, here!

If you've booked an interview appointment with the Embassy by the time the petition expires, you're fine, even if the interview and the medical take place after the petition's expiration date. The Embassy just wants to see some movement on the petition. If you can't book an interview appointment by the time the petition expires, just email the Embassy and ask for an extension. They routinely grant extensions.

Also, the U.S. Embassy Manila (USEM) can extend the validity of the USCIS-approved I-129F petition for up to a year if needed.

Then, when the USEM approves your visa, the expiration date of your visa will be six months from the date of your medical at St. Lukes.
