No problems :)

You will receive a Police Clearance form in the Packet 3 which you will complete and sign, then return with your other Packet 3 documents to the Embassy. This just means you are authorising the NZ police to disclose your police records to the Consulate General of the United States.

So you won't need to worry about visiting to the police head office for that... :)

Good luck guys! I have been a bit slack at updating my timeline and posting here, there didn't seem to be any other kiwis around as I was going through the process!

I had my interview in August, it wasn't nearly as scary as I was expecting. The consulate staff are lovely and helpful. They didn't ask for any other proof of relationship even though I came prepared with folders of it - possibly because my fiance was there with me too though, so they just asked us each some questions about how we met, where we'll be living in America, etc. I'm sure you'll be fine!

One thing we did get caught out by is that the medical is only valid for 6 months now even though the paperwork I received said 12 months - I opted to go for a second medical before my visa was actually issued as it reduced the expiry of the visa too much.

Glad to hear you got your interview appointment scheduled too! And yes, we'll most likely bump into each other, I'm guessing the 10am is the next slot to the 9:30am. Happy photocopying and printing evidence! smile.png So basically, we only bring our passport, $313 in cash (I think that's the amount on the letter), the interview letter, and the evidence of relationship right?

Oh, just a note, make sure to eat a big breakfast or bring snacks and water, I read that other people waited 3 hours for their interviews. But otherwise, good luck to us!! so excited! biggrin.png

Thanks for your review of your interview Cielle.Cielle! It helps to know that the consulate staff are pleasant to deal with :)

Glad you got your medical hiccup sorted, and bet you're excited to make the big move over pretty soon!

Thank you Cielle.Cielle! I'm feeling quite nervous about tomorrow so it's good to know that you had a good experience on your interview day smile.png. I thought it was 12 months too, but I guess that refers to the 12 month validity for Adjustment of Status Medical? "If you are a K-1 holder the I-693 instructions state that you are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination." There are so many dates involved in this process, it really does get confusing!

Thank you R&L for updating the Auckland Consulate page! That'll be really helpful for future applicants smile.png

I'm not sure if you already got this information, basically the consulate takes care of the NZ police clearance for you (you fill out the form in packet 3 and sent it back to the consulate).

But you also need police clearances from

- All countries you lived in for 6 months or more after the age of 16 - so if you were in japan for 6 months or more, you will need to obtain the police clearance yourself. The consulate does not assist in doing this. You will also need this for Adjustment of Status once you move to the US, so keep a copy.

Thanks ariannechris for the info

No worries :). I'm not sure how fast it is to get one from Japan, but I had to get one from the Philippines and I think it took a bit more than a month to get it.

You can check your case status at https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx? Use "immigrant" and then add your case number. If it says "Ready" then it has arrived at the consulate. And you should expect your packet 3 in a few days :)

I think you need to wait for the police clearance as it is one of the requirements for the forms you send it (I think it's DS-156k?). If Japan asks for evidence why you need a police clearance, you can include your NOA2 or a photocopy of the packet 3 instructions when they arrive. But I don't think they'd need it, usually all you have to say is you need it for a visa.
