hi guys, do I need my fiance's birth certificate when going in for an interview? it's ORIGINAL I mean.

there is also a confusing thing... lots of people are saying that I need an original of I-129 that he filed back in March for an interview, but he sent the original though to USCIS, now that our NOA2 is approved, will he need to print it out and sign it again or is a photocopy of it gonna be fine?

I don't think you need an original of the birth certificate. I think a copy will be fine. I'm guessing that's what you included in the orginal I-129F package?

As far as I know you don't need the original of the form either. I do have one that is signed because when my fiance and I put the package together we made copies with original signatures at the same time. I have only ever heard that you need to bring a copy of the original package to the interview. How my fiance and I did it isn't necessary so don't worry about that.

The following link will tell you what you need to bring to the interview: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html#6

I also want to clarify, where it says "One (1) Application For Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration, Form DS-230, Part I (You are not required to complete Part II.)", I have read that you the embassy will ask you for part II of the form, so you might as well bring part II with you.

There is no need to duplicate your question from your previous inquiry.

---same answer: :guides:

Look at the fiancee visa process, first the USC sends in the I-129F petition with their documentation affirming the claims made by the USC on the petition. The USC's documentation is examined and initial investigations of the USC are done. If the petition is approved, the approved petition is sent to the NVC, more verification. At the interview phase, it is now the time for the visa beneficiary to fill out applications and provide documentation affirming their claims made on the visa application. More reviews, and hopefully results in a successful interview and issuing of a K-1 visa.

Good luck.

Thank you Stacy and Andrew for your helpful input! Blessings to you guys :)

A and B, I am still waiting for NVC to contact me or Dept of State. Embassy doesn't have our case yet. it's been 25 days since NOA2. How long did you guys wait from the time of getting your NOA2 approved and having your case number from NVC to be eligible to apply for an interview?

It says that we need a letter from the embassy to make an appointment for medical... mhm...

It may benefit you to become a little bit more proactive. Don't wait for them to contact you. Review the VJ K-1 flowchart, use the listed NVC phone number, and call them on Monday, and find out the status of your approved petition.

Originals are only needed when asked for. They tell you that because because it's hard to get them back. You should have originals of your documents that they request at the time of your interview

I never needed my fiance's birth cerficate.. I brought a copy to the interview and they gave it back to me because they already recieved it in the I-129F package from the USCIS. Same thing with his divorce decree and the I-129F itself... They just didn't want any of that because that's what they recieve from the NVC...

I only needed an original of my birth certificate ( I guess they made a copy themselves) and all the other required documents (DS-156, DS-156K, DS-230 part I, I-134)...
