Hello,

I am a US citizen and going to apply k1 visa for my gf who is in Nepal. My parents they find out her in Nepal and they found she is best match to get married with me. After that I contact with her which starts from May 2013 and after that almost every day we call each other. On July I visit Nepal to meet her, I stay there 1 month during my Nepal visit, we visit different place together. I have plenty of pictures with her.

During my visit we didn't formally performed engagement ceremony, I don't have any picture and proof which shows we engaged.

Here is my question that for K1 visa it must needs to be engaged or not ? If it needs I don't have any supports that proof engagement was performed so what can I do ?

But informally it looks like engaged because during my 1 month stay there, almost 3 weeks both of us was together. I have a lot of date stamped together pictures of that period. I am confused here how to forward process ahead. Please help me with your experience and knowledge.

Any experience, suggestion and guidance is really appreciated .

Thanks a lot in advance for your suggestion and guidance.

Not everyone has a big fancy engagement celebration. Also, not everyone gets a big shiny ring.

She will need to write and sign the declaration of intent to marry though.

The US government's interpretation of "engagement" is simply intent to be married. No ring, ceremony, etc. are necessarily needed.

You meet the requirement to file, which is that you are both single and have met in the last two years.

That being said- is it customary in Nepal to have a big engagement? If so, while you can file now, it would be good to go back and have an traditional engagement ceremony and take pics. If something is a "big cultural thing" in the country you are from, your chances of approval are better if you adhere to it.
